  • Any chance of a scan? Jeff Ballard and Pete Stanicek were Orioles and I believe the Orioles had/have a Rochester club...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Definitely a late 80s Orioles connection. The Rene C person sounds like Rene Gonzalez, who also went by R.C. Gonzalez for a little while.

    Thanks so far.

This ball is most likely from one of the Orioles of the mid 80s minor league affiliates.Jeff Ballard was an 18 game winner for the Orioles in
I believe 1989.He was a junk ball lefthander.RC Gonzales was a Utility infieder with the Os in the same period of time.

  • I think everyone is on the right track - It seems to me like a Rochester Red Wings autograph ball from around '86 or '87. I grew up in the Rocehster area and remember Gonzalez and Stanicek playing with the Wings around that era. I believe Hart was/is a front office exec for many years in Rochester, now affiliated with the Twins organization.

I'm thinking it may be a ball signed in preseason, as I don't remember Ballard getting a ton of run with the Wings before getting called up...

All of the signatures are as follows: Jeff Ballard, Jose Bautista, John Hart, Rene Gonzales, Pete Stanicek & Dave Schmidt. As far as I can tell, it appears to be a ball signed by the 1988 Orioles during their annual exhibition game played at their AAA affiliate Rochester that year. The value would be minimal ($15-25 or so).
