Lol -auctions like this just crack me up. I love to watch them even though i will never bid in any of them. I guess there are people who want to see how cheaply they can put a type set together. It has personality-HAHAHA--this is much.

Happy to help, sir. In the future, just click the "http" button above the text box on the reply page, fill in the URL, press OK, and fill in the text you would like highlighted.

    Just passin' through.

  • Wow. Somebody paid dang near $100 for that. More noteworthy is the fact that I'm actually debating if I would or not.

You would be surprised. There are a fair number of people out there who strive to assemble type sets in the LOWEST grade possible. (There are at least a couple who are board members) The person who ran that auction was one of them. It was his goal for awhile to try and put to gether a type set, all certified by PCGS in Poor 1. It is a lot more difficult than you might imagine. Some coins just don't come in low grade, and of those that do it is very difficult to find coins that will grade Poor 1 that haven't been damaged and are therefore not certifiable. For awhile there was a "reward" posted of $1000 for a Poor-1 Ike dollar. Another problem is finding the coins. High grade coins are advertised everywhere. Who advertises Poor-1, Fr-2 or AG-3 coins? I guarantee you you will find it much easier to find a MS Lafayette dollar than to find another G-4.

Chasing low grades is one thing, but chasing damaged coins is quite another. If "damaged" coins qualify for low graders, the coin doctors will start churning those out too.

Oh you are absolutely correct-i really do like to watch them-saw a 1921 Peace dollar in Fa02 sell for about $66 a few week ago. I know it would be difficult and challenging to fullfill such a type set. I once started a date set of Large cents - The qualifications--they had to have a hole and i could not pay more than $2.00 for any of them--i had accumlulated about 30 of them including a 1794 when a dealer made me an offer i couldn't refuse. Collecting should be both fun and challenging no matter what you choose to collect. Anyone can purchase a set that is already put together-But putting your own personal touch to your set is what collecting should be.(i.e. assembling it yourself is where he enjoyment comes in) IMHO-collecting Coins is the best hobby because there is a level and nitch for everyone. • The seller is very well known on the boards here and is quite knowledgeable in these grades.

Hi there rec78. You might want to turn on your PM thing too. That's the orange lock.
