Two Cameos--- Is a Dip Necessary?

The first coin is a 1967 SMS 50c that I picked up for $10. The fields on the front are hazy, taking away from the mirrored look. The reverse is slightly hazy, but still has a very strong contrast. Is it necessary to dip this coin to have a shot at Cameo at NGC or PCGS? I was thinking of trying it in a weak solution of MS70.

The second coin is a 1963 PF 10c. The coin has toning which might hurt its shot at cameo. Some spots of the purple toning appear black on the profile. I will not dip this coin, but I am not sure if toning hurts its appearance.

MS70 most likely wouldn't help and the coins don't appear to be worth submitting, probably MS66CAM and PR67DCAM.

For haze try MS70, but that Kennedy doesn't look like it would make CAM even without the haze.

  • The photo of the obverse of the Kennedy is bad, I could not get a picture to come out well. It looks much like the reverse, but the haze prevents it from being photographed well.
