Let's construct a raw modern box of 20.

DHeathDHeath Posts: 8,472 ✭✭✭
This should be easy. Please keep the coins under 5 figures, and don't worry about condition. We'll assume they're all high-grade MS/PR.

Coin #1 - I'll begin with the Cheerios Sac.

I simply can not limit myself to a box of 20. It must be a box of 21.

I would also have to have 5 boxes of 21.

In each of the 5 boxes of 21 I would place a date run of 1950-1970 DCAM Proof and SMS coins. One box of 21 each for cents, nickels, dimes, quarters and halves.

Sorry about changing the parameters of a single box of 20, but that is what I would do. Anyone else want to join me?

Then I will throw in the 55 DDO Don.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

JRocco, you beat me to it. image I'll add the 94 and 97 matte Jeffs.

How about some Ty1 SBAs? I don't know the Ty1 market but are any of them good to put in?

You need a dime, even though nobody likes them.

If a 1968 No S is too much, then go with a 1970 No S.

Or maybe a 1964 SMS Roosie

  • I would include my 1964 Peace dollar, but I don't plan to part with it.

I was thinking the same thing, but I imagine it would go for quite a bit more than 5 figures.

    Obscurum per obscurius
  • If I suggest another Jeff will it replace a coin already in that box? I just love the limited production '94 and '97 Matte Jeffs but I would rather have a 1957 proof graded DCAM by PCGS. I imagine they are still only 4 figures. image

I would go for 1950-1953 DCAM Jeffs as being as tough as, or almost as tough as, the '57 but a little more under the radar, however I think the cut off date was '55....

  • Ooops, I didn't quite catch the raw part of the thread title image

Still I stick with my choice. I love those '94 SMS Jeffs, but almost all were very well made. Almost every 1957 Proof Jeff is brilliant. To find any cameo contrast at all is cool. To find a real DCAM is outright rare!

No. Because not only can ownership add a grading point, ownership can also add a designation.image
  • DHeathDHeath Posts: 8,472 ✭✭✭
Certainly not, if the steps are there. That designation doesn't belong IMO to the services, but rather to the collectors.

I think a must would be a heavily contrasted cameo proof franklin- like perhaps a 56. Or a 56 cameo franklin type 1...... image
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • Since there was no mention of a specific country, I'll throw this into the box.

    2002 Canada Queen Mother

    imageimage

Based on a photograph, the portrait on this coin captures The Queen Mother's timeless sense of quiet dignity and the warmth of her attentive gaze.

This is the lowest mintage of a Canadian Dollar ever struck!

    Okay,

I decided you need some nickels in your box... so here goes:

    1964 SMS
    1965 FS
    1965 DCAM
    1966 FS
    1966 DCAM
    1967 DCAM
    1968S FS
    1970D FS
    1970S FS
    1971 No S
    1976P FS
    1978P FS
    1981P FS
    1983P FS
    1984P FS
    1989P FS
    1990P FS
    1993P FS
    1994D FS
    1995D FS
    2002D FS
    2003D FS

I didn't add the 1968D FS because I know it costs more than 5 figures... some of the others are probably very close if not over the 5 figure mark, but it's unknown at this time.

Add all of those in the top pops... and someone would be very upset.
