I got that mailer as well....and then I threw it in the circular file. The BRM is getting as bad as HSN with the gold plated nickels and that kind of stuff. What crap....image

    Keep the guitar...image

It's more than a tad ridiculous ... I'll probably keep up with the 1oz MS Britannias so long as they have QE II's portrait. Beyond that I'm not so sure ...

Guess it will also be a wait and see on the minor coinage what with the design changes coming up in the next year or two.

Are these legal tender £2 coins? Are they all dated 2006? I do not see them on the Royal Mint website.image

I don't want gold plated crap in my Britannia set! If I want silver I'll buy silver, if I want gold I'll buy gold, but who wants "goilver" or "siold" or whatever that crap is?image

Does the mailer state their intention with this set (other than squeezing every last cent out of people like us). Are they going to do crap like this every year? I suspect very few people will order these.

Regular proof single is $42.50. $475 for 5 comes to $95 each coin (more than double for each coin!). image

I must say again, they are purdy, though. image

Do they show the box or list a max mintage?

A big box, eh? Maybe I'll have to buy some. image

I'm a sucker for fancy-schmancy coronation and jubilee sets, but I couldn't see paying the ridiculous prices for the QE II Golden Jubilee commonwealth crown sets (even with the fancy wood cases). I figure I should be able to get them within 10 years for half the issue price, though.

Since her debut on the gold coinage Britannia has appeared in five original guises. All five were created by Philip Nathan and now, the five sister figures - each dressed in fine gold on five silver Proof coins - sit side by side in a fabulous display.

    * All are struck in Britannia silver which means that the alloy is composed of 958 parts of silver per thousand, an alloy even more pure than sterling silver

    * All five - with a denomination of £2 - each contain a full ounce of fine silver

    * Each reverse boasts a beautiful study of Britannia plated in fine gold and struck to a lustrous Satin Proof finish

    * The Queen’s portrait on the obverse is also beautifully plated in fine gold to make this the very first collection to be plated on both obverse and reverse.

Moreover, the milled edges are also gold plated and this makes a perfect gold frame for both the portrait of the Queen and the portrait of Britannia.

Presented in a high-quality case of soft black faux leather along with a lovely pictorial booklet recounting the Britannia story, this is a simply stunning collection that you will love to possess - indeed, it is an absolute must for collectors of British coins.

Just 3,000 collections have been authorised.

Please note that Mr Philip Nathan, the creator of the Britannia designs in the Golden Silhouette Collection, has not consented to the use of the designs on part-gilded silver coins.

I tend to agree, I don't like gold plated anything and I feel like the Royal Mint in milking it's customers. However, I feel like I need to keep my Britannia set complete. I am torn!imageimageimage

That's what they are counting on! I love the Britannias but I don't think I'll get this set.
