List reasons/excuses why eBay transactions didn't get completed

I just got one from a zero feedback bidder:

"I bid on your item without my glasses. After I won I put on my glasses and don't like the item any more. Sorry."

Sheesh, my advice is to always wear glasses to look at photos before bidding! Does anybody else get or give silly excuses?

Never got that one! image I just get the usual "My <insert relative of choice> died, or I was in the hospital because <insert accident or disease of choice> or the occasional "my kid bid, not me." You must have much more creative deadbeats bidding than I do.

I've had "My card won't work with paypal." After which I contacted them and told them I could take it over the phone and they said "Oh I'm having problems with my card." I just don't want to hassle you any more.

I've also had. "I was trying to send a best offer but hit the buy it now instead."

    Hehe, that's funny.
I've only sold about 150 items on eBay and never had anyone back out. So I never got any excuses.
My son recently moved out of my house to live in Florida. He changed his address and he started receiving about 3/4 of my mail INCLUDING two eBay auction payments that I was waiting on. Their payments were late when I received word upon their arrival in Florida but was able to salvage the two transactions to everyone's satisfaction.

The best one I've ever gotton was probably a dead honest one.

A guy won a coin from me for about $400 and a couple days after close I got an email saying that he was completely drunk when hr made the last second bid to win the auction. He said he'd had a fight with his girlfriend over money and his intent was to spend his money before she could take it. Apparently they made up. Dude wasn't even a collector.

I had an R/C car bid up to $800 - at the last minute it went up to $900. Contacted the winner and never got any response, sent threatening emails and finnally the account holder told me that his son used his account without his permission and that he could not afford that car for his son. I let him off the hook and fortunately the 2nd bidder wanted the car at his highest bid so I completed the transaction.

Sad Side Note: He was contacted 1 day before the auction end by someone claiming to be me an offering the item outside of ebay. He sent me the emails and they were basically just a back and forth with the scammer trying to see how much cash he could get out of my buyer. He told him he could pay 50% and just send him the other 50% when he got it! I'm not sure who he thought was going to believe that.

The part that made my buyer hesitate was that the paypal account was not confirmed and mine is (was advertised in the auction as such).

I still to this day think the last minute bid was by the scammer because he hadn't finished scamming my buyer.

added - I contacted ebay who couldn't care less

  • I sold some camaro door panels. The guy told me about a week later that he didnt receive the money he thought he would. We just didnt complete the transaction. I relisted the auction, and he won again... this time for $190 plus $40 shipping istead of the original $125 plus $40 shipping... $65 more... and he came through immediately with the payment.

Mine deals with a coin I listed with a $650 reserve and a $900 BIN. Had a bidder send me an e-mail telling me what a commem. stud he was. In addition he was the largest real estate tycoon in Texas who spent $1,000,000 buying e-bay stuff last year. Anyway, he asked if the commem. I was listing was a monster - 'cause if it wasn't he didn't want me to waste his time having to send it back; if it was he'd BIN it. Needless to say the pictures I posted showed the coin to be a well toned commem. - but a monster???? I e-mailed back that I liked the coin, see the pics., etc. He bid high enough to clear the reserve and won the auction. I did rec. payment (a check as I recall) a bit late, he told me he was was flying his jet back from somewhere and had engine trouble and got stuck .... etc. Sent the coin and about a week later received it back with a note that simply stated that "this won't do". I refunded his money and have blocked him from my auctions. Life is too short to put up with that guy.

    Now here is an idiot...

First let me explain I bought this fuzz ball 1909 as I think it is a DDO type 2. I have never had a problem shipping or receiving coins the 3.5 years I have lived in Puerto Rico..Hey, same US postal system and same US postal rates.

After 6 weeks of email I get this:

I have written to you regarding the shipping address. I have tried to ship your item four times and because of the PR address and the USA shipping, I can not send your coin. I am in the process now of sending you back your full total paid for the auction.

Now what’s up with this I have no idea. But if he can not get the address right to mail the coin, what hope do I have he can get it right to return my payment??????
