The obverse is darker than it shows in the pic. More like the reverse pic.

when something is approaching or beyon 200 years old, how do you know it wasn't cleaned 180 years ago and has toned back to beauty in those years?

I don't want to name coins here, but honestly I think only 2, maybe 3 of the coins posted in here have never been cleaned at all...

I'm glad it can't be done, but man, if we knew how and kept quiet, it would be worth a fortune!!

I guess there would be tell tale marks like on wiped or whizzed morgans and peace dollars. or
are you bust afficianados just trusting your instincts ? (I think that's valid, im just curious)

or is the muck around the stars an indication that at some point something was on this coin, but has now been removed ?

Got this coin from Bill Jones @ the FUN show. Its much darker in person, real crusty.
No hairlines to be found on this one.Bill thought this was about as original as they get.

OOps,this ain't a bust coin,I guess me and LTC need to read the title a little closer.I still think this qualifies as a coin that has never been cleaned.image

This 50/UNI may have gone thru the wash in great great gramps overalls back in 1814, but aside from that--- to coin a phrase (get it--hahaha) from my Brooklyn days---"she is a dirty girl".

  • pursuitofliberty,

The first three coins were bought up in a probate sale by a now very elderly BHNC member many years ago. They have been together for at least 150 years and were not messed with. If you're willing to take them off my hands, it must be that you have studied the coin collector's guide to alchemy and need them for a control group in your unholy experiments?

    Brad,

Pursuit of Liberty wants them only for evil reasonsimage....all three of those need to stay together....and Hawaii is a good place for them...

    image

I love those three coins and the story behind them.

The climate in Hawaii is way way too humid for those,,,, If they ever need to be moved- upstate NY is the place, in fact---what a coincidence---I live in upstate NY.....image

And by the way--- all 4 of those are awesome.
