    Hot: T3s, high-grade caramels, T-206 PSA 6s

    Not: 1970s PSA 9s, generally. 1952 Topps

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

  • I can tell you two cards that are smoking hot and selling for well above SMR are:

1984 Donruss Don Mattingly PSA 10 - (SMR lists for $500) - selling for $800+ on eBay.
1977 Topps Bruce Sutter PSA 9 - (SMR lists for $125) - one just sold for $168 on eBay.

Goose Gossage rookies in PSA 8 and PSA 9 are also hot, regularly selling for more than SMR list price.

As a Blue Jay collector I can tell you that cards of these players are inexplicably selling for very close to their Beckett book value:

    Aaron Hill rookies
    Dustin McGowan rookies

What's not hot - ungraded '80s hockey rookies - outside of Messier, Yzerman, and Gretzky. I can't get $5.00 for a Mike Gartner rookie in EX-MT condition!

I guess at the moment you could add Kirby Puckett To the list also.

Not hot: 78 baseball PSA 9s.
Last night I could have bought PSA 9 commons for $6.50 a piece shipped. And 10s were going for $25.
The temptation was so strong. So very strong... image

However in general, what's hot is what I want badly (78s excepted) like 72 Hi nums, early 70s stars.
What's NOT HOT is what I sell. image

It also seems like nice raw complete sets from solid sellers are rising in value. I've been tracking 1970's baseball and football sets and the demand is high.

What's Hot---my cards are being graded

What's Not---they have been there since Feb 1st!!!

Mikeschmitt nailed with T206's both PSA 5's and 6's. Most prewar vintage is up 2000%.

  • 60's high grade hockey is going for equal to or above SMR
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

I have seen this also. It totally contradicts the fact that graded singles are not bringing in the money however?

I did not follow 52T, but is it really cold? I thought this set was pretty much immune to being cold.

I think the same could be said for 53 Mantles also, I have been wanting to get one for the past five years but never pulled the trigger on one. now the price has shot up tremendously from when I first started looking at them, Makes me kick myself for not buying one the first time five years ago.

  • Press pins are cold again and I like that! I can add some quality stuff to my collection!

FYS - I think the raw complete sets are attracting casual collectors as well as the people looking for choice singles to grade. The 1970's sets were huge and it would take a lot of time and money to put one together from scratch. I can see casual collectors who aren't into grading bidding on these sets.

The kids who grew up in the 1970's are approaching the point in their lives where they have some extra bucks to spend on stuff like card sets. This is probably the last generation that had a lot of collectors.
