Year 2006 "year of dog" coins. Question.

I'm seeing some colored and some not colored. One colored one was on Ebay offered by an Australian seller. The other is offered at PandaAmerica in California. They actually look pretty nice for a colored coin. Most look look really cheesey. My question is........Who's coloring them? After market or is that mint coloring some? It's time to start CCWjr's 2006 collection and I don't know which to get.

  • And while I'm at it, why is the Timberwolf coin so dark? you can barely make out the queen. At least in the pictures. I don't recall my other Canadian coins looking like that.

If you are referring to this I think it is just the imaging of the coin. I haven't seen one in person, I could look at the next coin show I go to in two weeks and let you know.

  • I was thinking bad pics, too, but every one of them that's on ebay looks like that. The wolf looks good but you can barely see the old broad.

And now I've found yet another color scheme for the Australian dog coins. image

This one isn't quite as dark. I did a eBay search for Timberwolf and only came up with coins from two different sellers.

  • Here are the other dog coins I'm looking at. I like the colored Australian better than the colored Chinese coin. The uncolored version is ok, too.

And what's with a 1 kilo coin? Who the hell wants a 2.2 pound coin?

Can't answer the color question. There a member here named Cruzi who is in Australia, maybe you can PM him.

I couldn't even find an image of the Timberwolf coin on the Royal Canadian Mint site. It has to be there somewhere.

  • I'll have to get with him. So far I've found 4 different versions of the same coin.

I have one of the 1 kilo dragon coins - bought it for the silver content - now that silver is way up, it's worth quite a bit more than I paid for it

  • Not only is the Timberwolf not on the RCM website but the German Shepherd coin isn't on the RAM website. What gives? Are these things not real or do they only sell them to their friends?
