Baltimore Restaurants!

This will be my first trip to Baltimore. What restaurants are a 'must go' down there? Keep in mind I am not old enough to legally drink yet!

Then try their other restaurant, Petit Louis. It's a hike, but well worth it.

If you're "new" to the area, then I highly recommend a quick (five or six block) trip to the Lexington Market for crab cakes from Faidley's Seafood. Their crabcakes are, I kid you not, the size of a baseball and they're so good that they've won "Best of Baltimore" so often that they've retired the title.

The Market is only open until 5:00 p.m. Mon, Tues & Wed and 5:30 p.m. Thurs, Fri and Sat., so it's more of a lunch or very early dinner place. I don't know if they'll deliver to the Convention Center.

Another casual choice, this in walking distance, is The Helmand. It's really exceptional.

  • Thanks DaveG! Crab cakes sound good! Anyone recommend the ESPN Zone?

  • And just for fun, the hotdog vendors at the street corners! I haven't had a bad one yet.

There's a Hooters a block away on the harbor. If that isn't your thing then there are plenty of great restaurants near and around the Inner Harbor.

I don't know if Hooters would fly with the girlfriend, although they are a family restaurant

Taking the girlfriend to Hooters would be a great experience for her...gives her motivation for treating you better.

Or else leave the girlfriend at home...I always do.

The vast majority of pretty females hate coins other than spending them, so it's probably better to leave the girlfriend at home.

Believe me...if she's cute then you definitely don't want to do that. Coin sharks aren't the only sharks out at the major coin shows these days.

    michael,

There is Moe's not too far away. Mortons is less than a block away and Legal SeaFoods is across the street, not to mention other decent restaurants such as Phillips, so why in the world would we want to go to Burger King or Subway? It's not like Burger King and Subway locations are hard to find in this country.

Knowing coins can bring the right attention to your table. A booth babe only brings obnoxiousness...

Then try the food court on the top floor of the Harborplace Mall connected to the Renaissance Hotel. The food options are much better than Burger King and Subway for about the same amount of money.

Michael - Stop by my table. I'll give you another ten bucks so you can get yourself a great vegetable plate at Morton's. Best value in Baltimore, IMHO. - Andy

Little Italy. Almost anything there. Take a quick 5 minute cab ride.
  • Da Mimmo's in Baltimore's Little Italy is the best italian restaurant by far in the city!

If you think about it, it's unsafe to be standing on the curb outside of your house...afterall, you could be hit by an out of control vehicle.

The area around Little Italy, the convention center and the Inner Harbor are relatively safe, although the same safety precautions should apply anywhere in the world.

Wharf Rat right across the street...I think its wharf...

Thats where forum members normally go for their lunch. Great Fish n' chips at a fair price.

Its a pub, but still has great food.
  • Phillips on the Inner Harbor is my favorite. Not cheap, but I've never been disappointed there. Their cakes are great, and tails are done perfectly.
  • I second the Rat. A great Place to drink as well as eat.

Damn you Andy! You've already named my three favorite haunts. Other than the Helmand (fantastic Afghan cuisine), Petit Louis (tasty French) and Charleston, I really like a place called Bicycle, which is a 15 minute drive away.

Dollars and his gal took me to a place (somewhere across the harbor) that had great crabcakes. I couldn't find it again to save my life! It was among a bunch of row houses in a neighborhood. You wouldnlt think the place would be any good. But it was!
