If someone knew, with a high degree of probability - they would not have any incentive to 'share' the news with others. Rather, they would have the incentive to buy up the rack packs that contain Ozzie rookies, for example. Some dealers have accumulated this information in this past - but I'm not sure if anyone out there just has it to give away....

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
My experience while opening up a rack case of 1979s was that two of the boxes out of three had ozzie rookies while the third box did not have any. With that said I think there is at least 2 hot boxes out of three in a rack case and based on the placement in the box you can spend good money for a Ozzie dud box. Many people think 1979 are bland but I like the simplistic of the issue as well as the colors and besides Ozzie there are some other great stars for a issue 26 yrs old.
there is a packing pattern to the racks. as to how it falls, i do not know. the pattern can also change throughout the rack as some cards will be turned facing the other way indicating the end of a run or similar (it may be the 2nd card in the rack, or next to the last).
do you have any for sale? i purchased several from stone183 on the boards here and i'd be interested in them. stone's racks had nice centering for the most part which is a feat in itself regardless of the stars.
Thanks,

i think it is relative from case to case also. if you are fortunate enough to buy all rack packs from same case then it's obviuosly more systematic and predictable.
for example: you buy an entire rack case (or 2 or whatever) and you bust them all, you probably have some idea of the sequencing for that particular case. however if you open another different case, the sequencing could be totaly different.
i have no clue how to tell sequencing for random rack packs however. that would be pure guess-timating IMHO>

Without a doubt! Steve a bbcex said that cards in rack packs are sequenced. While there may be an occassional variation the bulk of it should stay the same. If Steve said it, then I would believe it.
I have four dozen or so 79 rack packs, one of which has an Ozzie rookie on the back. I guess if I really wanted to, I could bust that one and figure out the sequence of cards in front of Ozzie. I've also seen a few racks w/the Ozzie rookie on the top. Out of the 79 racks that I have, six have Jim Palmer on the front. Four of them have the same card on the back, while the other two have a different card. So while there is a pattern, it changed through the course of the year. I also agree with mikeschmidt that there would be no incentive to share the information.

Okay so what I get out of this is there may be a pattern, but even if there is noone will share it. I just have one pack that I bought in a little collection Maybe I should just sell it.

The only one i currently know is the Murray rotation for 78' baseball Rack packs. Haven't been wrong yet.

My son bought a "hot" cello back in 1992 - can't remember what year or person contained...
I want to say it was Gooden? Issue: condition. But, I do remember, the card was OC and had a slight "touch" in one corner.
Unless you can see a card, a "hot" pack could yield a card no where near what the guy is asking for the item.
And, at it's worst - someone can "cherry pick" a box and sell of the combined remains.
Card companies should know better and prevented this from the day the first pack rolled off the press IMO.
