"Manufactured" PKOK Ikes being sold and SHILLED on eBay

Just some observations about those "knock-off" PKOK's on eBay.....(#8392211168 & #8391438708)
By looking at the coin, I know it is a fake/"knock-off" PKOK....By digging a little deeper,...I wouldn't
trust him with a tenfoot pole and don't mind warning other Ike enthusiasts about him via the Forum.
Here is why:
He uses another eBay ID and shill bids up his coins/or some one else in the same house does.
User ID (kpl) seems to jump in his (kcla) PKOK auctions and throws down and slightly "hefty" bid early on
in the auctions (usually in the $67-$73 range) before it ever gets near that high.
Now,..... kpl and seller kcla not only both come from Utah, they not only sell some of the same
articles,.....but they even USE THE SAME PICS!(auctions#8394024447 & #8393681921)
I don't have a problem with friends "bumping up" another friend's auctions (without asking is cool).
It happens all the time....I do it every now and then, but only if I like the item and am willing to buy it if I am the winning bidder.
But, I do have a problem if they are from the same house (maybe even related).....that's pretty blatant shilling (IMHO).
It kind of bothers me a little that these PKOK Ikes are being "manufactured".....but, it bothers me A LOT more that
they are puposely being shilled up to relatively high $ value.
These "newly manufactured" PKOK Ikes are fairly close to looking like "Original PKOK Hoard" ones and may fool some
people.......The fact that they are shilling them should be enough to tell some one...DANGER......DANGER......BUYER BUWARE!

1974-S Proof
<< <i>I saw those the other day. I automatically assumed they were crap AT coins and hit the back button. The SLC location is a nice touch though, and may fool a few people. >>
What do you mean by the SLC remark?

I then won this Ike from the same seller a few days later (at 3X's the cost of the first! Purchased with shilling, unknown to me, involved.
Needless to say once I discovered the shananigans I stopped and refused to bid on the next two that came up (linked above).
Didn't matter though as the price climbed an additional 50% over the one I overpaid for!
WOW!!
If that doesn't take the cake! I guess he felt like he desrved more than what you got the first on for!
Sounds like you may have a good case for getting your money back (if you want).
Thing is, I don't know if eBay will do anything but slap them on the wrist for shilling......and selling "manufactured" or
"knock-off", PKOKs would be pretty hard to prove as being "fraud".........'kind of a grey area, I would think

THe aqua/green is exactly like the PKOK and the rainbow colors are close. The issue is the rainbow should be in concentric rings very tightly banded around the rims. Every proof PKOK has that look.
People are getting burned by this PKOK look a like. Spread the word.
I have a board member who sent me two of these. They look very good in person. The coins are out to PCGS who most likely will kick them back. We'll see.
In any case, there are games being played that are making the real thing less valuable.

On the other hand, if PCGS slabs them, how many folks believes they are NT?

Here's hoping PCGS does not slab the new ones! Now, here's my logic. At the expense of your two coins if PCGS sees these "new" Peacocks as market acceptable NT then it'll devalue all of them as the integrity of the older hoard will then be diminished somewhat.
I know NGC won't touch these and here's hoping PCGS doesn't either.
Were not the original PKOK coins MS Ikes? These are proof. Different species altogether.
The 1974 brown box Ikes do exactly what the guy says they do. They are unique among the bown boxes in that they halo tone. I'm not at all sure that his 1972 Ike proof is "real NT", but it is not unusual to see the 1974's tone like this.

ever having seen a Clad Proof one. The MS ones are usually found in extra-ordinary high grades
and can bring SUPER-strong money.
The original hoard was "found" somewhere near Salt Lake City, Utah and was at a time when toned
Ikes were not of much interest at all and really brought no premium. So, there was really no incentive
to AT Ikes,....particularly high-grade ones (ie. 72-P MS66, 73-P MS66, 71-S MS67, 78-D MS66, ect...)
Bob Halstead wrote a nice feature on them in Wexler, Crawford and Flynn's "The Authoritative Reference
On Eisenhower Dollars" (pages 20-21).

The PKOK Ike hoard is rumored to have originated from a location in Salt Lake City.
It's a long read but interesting to those that find this coin so.

But there is a boardmember here that demands proof if a statement
like that is made.........
I doubt he will respond however ; hopefully he is in a rehab center
<< <i>The PKOK Ikes are AT, and so are the Ikes identified in this thread....Mike >>
These are factual statements -- I guess that means you witnessed the artificial toning of all these coins.
