how to...

I have a bunch of nickels from 1942 - 1945. Are they worth anything more than face value...enough to be worth the trouble of selling them...or do I just go to the bank and turn them in? Thanks for the help.

Good luck finding out what they are worth. Few people will quote buys on the silver
nickels and those who do have huge spreads. There's more silver in two of these than
in a silver dime though. I like to hold onto XF's and AU's and always check for the great
varieties which show up. Of course the P (without mint marks) and D '42's aren't silver.

    D'oh. Thanks Cladiator.

How much is a bunch? You're best bet, probably, is selling them as a lot on eBay for their silver value. You'll get alot more than 5¢ per coin like you would at the bank.

Some are and some aren't. If your 1942 P's are Type 1 with no minmark then thay have no silver. If they are Type 2 with the large "P" mintmark above Monticello then they are silver.

I do see ads in the Coin World classifieds wanting to buy those for a good bit over face (although certainly under melt). You have to factor in shipping, though.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

How many is a bunch? They might make a good gift for a YN.

Hey Coinnut, thanks for the link. I'm saving that one!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!
