I don't do the box of 20 but if I did this is the way I would go. This is the same list I used in the other thread a day or so ago. Although a couple of these coins are pretty expensive I don't think any of them are unobtainable.

    2. Draped Bust Half Dime
    3. Capped Bust Dime Large Size
    4. Liberty Cap Large Cent
    5. Draped Bust Dime

    7. Draped Bust Half Cent
    8. Draped Bust Quarter
    9. Capped Bust Half Dollar
    10. Draped Bust Half Dollar
    11. Capped Bust to left Half Eagle Large Bust
    12. Capped Bust to left Quarter Eagle Large Bust
    13. Seated Half Dime No Stars No Drapery
    14. Seated Dime No Stars No Drapery
    15. Gold Dollar Type 1
    16. Seated Dollar with Motto
    17. Silver Three Cent
    18. Seated Half Dollar with Arrows and Rays
    19. Sheild Nickel with Rays

    Ah, Rich, Rich, Rich...

You were doing great until you stuck that ugly yellow stuff in there. (But, if you HAD to have some gold at least you chose nice designs.)
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

Random pieces of cool copper. no real organization, just whatever I find that is cool. Cost: anywhere from modest to pricey.

With only a few exceptions, my "box of twenty" consists of things I want in my type set that I either haven't cracked (or won't crack) or don't have a hole for. I'm on lunch now, not at home, but I think it goes like this --

    capped bust half dime, 63
    T3 gold dollar, 64
    06/5 draped bust quarter, 12
    CC $5 Lib, 55
    97-O $10 Lib, 58
    draped bust half, 12
    $10 Indian, 58
    $2.50 Indian, 55
    Pan-Pac 50c, 58
    Vermont, 64
    Pilgrim, 64
    Bay Bridge, 64
    1928 Peace 55
    Isabella, 40

Something like that. There might be a few others.

Interesting, in the fact that I just brought in several 3-ring binder folders to my local coin dealer, saying to buy it all. I had collected/accumulated 1000's of "junk" coins. Well, really not junk, but circulated low-grade common dates of wheats, nickels, franklins and walkers, silver quarters/dimes, etc. They were worth probably only a $1-$5 a piece average. And I didn't have any rhyme or reason to my collection. So I told me local dealer to make me an offer on everything.

Now, I am going to take that money, and selectively buy a few coins, and work my way up to a "Box of 20" that I can be proud of, and enjoy. My box of 20 isn't the rarest coins, or even the oldest (ie: all classic coins); rather coins that I want.

    Large Cent
    Indian Head Cent
    Early Wheat Cent
    3 Cent Silver
    Shield Nickel
    Liberty Nickel
    Buffalo Nickel
    Half Dime
    Barber Dime
    Bust Half
    Seated Half
    Barber Half
    Walking Liberty Half
    Franklin Half
    Bust Dollar
    Trade Dollar
    Morgan Dollar
    Peace Dollar
    $20 Gold

While not the rarest (ie: 1793 Chain Cent) as I can not afford that - still a nice selection that I will look for in high grades.

While I dont believe in a box of twenty per say....I do believe in having a core collection of coins that you love. For me, they consist of coins that are unimproveable from some standpoint, whether it be eye appeal, choiceness for the grade or sentimentality due to it being a gift or found, upgraded etc.

If I had to pick my box of 20, it would be these 20.
