Anyone ever buy from David Hall Rare Coins?

I don't specialize in the sort of stuff they offer and haven't bought from them, though I do occassionally read their ads.

Not yet, but I do check their inventory on occasion. Problem is, not all of the coins are imaged. image

Bought an ms67 1921 Buffalo Nickel 5 yrs ago from David and love the coin it's still in my collection. Image depiction was close but as you know images can be very deceiving. Overall I'm very satisfied with the coin and all transactions.

No - I have not. For the material I collect, his prices tend to be well above what I can buy them for.

  • He seems to specialize in hi-grade PCGS coins.

I beleive he also has something to do with PCGS.

Hmmmm, I guess that's why I have never purchased from him.

I wonder if he offers an iron-clad guaranty of authenticity?

kinda, in a sorta roundabout way, well not really, but it depends on if ....well , I'll have to research this question a bit further and get back to you... but I know for sure, I wanna send relayer a Christmas card. He's on the right track and I suspect any coin any of you ever bought through DHRC never lost ya any money.

I thought HRH sold that business and the only thing that he has to do with it is the name.

I have not purchased from them yet, but wish I could afford to. Looks like they have nice stuff, but prices are a bit high IMO.

I'm glad you brought up that question. I'm sure everyone else is wondering too, and it's probably keeping them up at night....

Surprisingly never had the opportunity. Though once in the mid-80's I did take advantage of their nationwide buying offer and shipped a lot of choice unc type coins for an offer. It was about 60% of what I expected as fair. Very disappointing and eye-opening at the time. Ended up selling them to Renrob for 100% of what I expected. Never attempted any deals since. Sometimes you just don't get more than one chance to connect.

I've bought several and only exchanged one for another like item-holder was cracked. Fast shipping and nice for grades. Last time was about a year ago. Ray

  • I have been happy with the purchases direct from DHRC. The coin I bought from him on ebay is a different story.....

I've purchased from them in the past. The coins seem a tad on the high-priced side, but I was very happy with the quality, which I presume accounts (somewhat?) for the higher price. I never dealt with David or any of the "high-ups." My contact was one of their salespeople, a women (whose name I forget) and who quit to take care of a her new baby. It's too bad for me that she quit; she was very pleasant and called me a couple of times with coins she correctly thought I'd like.

David Hall has been negative on southern gold for as long as I have visited the site, and naturally, his inventory reflects this position. Besides, they do not fit in his CW full page ads of "Spectacular Gems" (or whatever) when most of the coins are not known in anywhere near "gem" condition.
