I didn't know who he was until the Miller Lite commercials he did in the late 1970's...

Montreal retired his # tonight. Classy gesture but it would have been nice if they did it a while back and he could have enjoyed it.

I never saw him play but met him when I was a kid. After coaching he did some radio for the Atlanta Flames broadcast with Jiggs McDonald. I will always remember him saying..." De Flame are skating very goot tonight Jigg". He was a great ambassador for the sport.

Sad day.. It really sucks that the Canadiens waited this long to retire his jersey. It would have been nice to see him enjoy the moment.

  • I watched it on French CBC tonight. It was a very emotional ceremony with his family and former teamates, most notably Henri ( the pocket rocket ) Richard and Dickie Moore in attendance. At times it seemed that everyone in the building was in tears. His two sons spoke on behalf of the family. His number 5 was raised to the rafters of the Bell Center right beside the #7 of Canadiens legend Howie Morenz. One thing I did not know until tonight was the Geoffrion's wife, who was at tonights ceremony was the daughter of the same late great Howie Morenz. Also fitting was the the Canadiens were hosting the New York Rangers tonight, the team with which Geoffrion finished his career.

    He will be missed.

Yep, Howie Mornez is Blake Geoffrion's great grandfather. (boom boom's grandson and also a hockey player)

Watching hockey night in Canada they were talking about how it's freaky that he passed away the same day as Morenz and also the same day they put to rest the Montreal Forum.
