“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly."
Nice coin. It's great to see a collector collecting a bona-fide scarce coin for a change.

Thanks for all the kind comments about my latest coin.
The coin pops are (per heritage) 74 in MS61 or higher (PCGS and NGC). How many are resubmits who knows.
The coin fits nicely in my set of 1866 coins. I am putting it all together, including the gold.
It isn't a rare coin, but not easy to find in uncirculated.
talk about a tough date for a gold coin! transition year. wonder if this dollar is just as tough as say a 1866-S with motto half eagle?
FC I think you mean with out motto, mintage of 9,000 coins. Versus with motto mintage of about 35,000 coins. The 1866 with motto philly coin has a mintage of 6700. (per coinfacts.com)
Almost all the gold from 1866 is tough to find above xf-45. It was heavily circulated, and some dates have zero uncirculated examples known.
The Eagles will be in my opinion the hardest coins to come by. I will be happy just to have an Eagle coin.
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?

i am in love
a low mintage of 48,000
first seated dollar with in God we trust on the reverse!!
a truly rare coin in biz strike maybe 45-60 ?????? exist in ms63 and higher grades?????
the melt value of this coin the year it was made was 1.04 or close so many where exported for trade coins and many more melted
a truly delicious coin a tempting treat that certianly would be the FEATURED highlight of a numismatic feast/banquet
I sold my OGH MS65 for around $40k after I bought the Jimmy Hayes MS67.
i will have to check my notes.. but i will agree the 1866s without
motto is tough, the with motto, is equally as hard.
lets estimate that pcgs has graded 70 with motto, while the
no motto may be around 40. i will double check.
both are termendously tough coins in any condition.
ussually well marked up retail wise.
maybe?? 2 where struck in the proof format
and a one million dollar or so coin!!
wow tradedollarnut i would have loved to see that ogh ms65 1866
The no motto 1866 Seated dollar coin is my dream coin.
I will buy the private PR63 one if I ever win the lottery. And of course I can persuade whoever owns it to sell it.
Nope - that coin is away for a very long time.
My 1866 Philly Mint Set
8311 1866 $5 Motto MS 6 5 6 4 2 6 1 0 1 0 0 0 31
8312 1866-S $5 Motto MS 24 5 11 2 0 0 4 0 0 0 0 0 46
8300 1866-S $5 NoMot MS 35 4 5 2 2 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 51
tough coin with that motto.
kinda suprising when you think about the mintage.
Perhaps that would explain it. the lower pop numbers.
Several lower grade example have been offered at Heritage in the last year or so, and they don't really carry a premium suggesting short supply.
