...do you always make a point in reading their threads? In other words, when you see this member(s) name as the thread originator, you know you just must read it... for educational and/or entertainment purposes, etc.image

    My own... And Laura's

Actually, I read about what interests me and what I have time to read. If I'm bored (rarely) I read almost everything.

    Oh, and yours, of course.

I only read the thread titles that sound interesting. Also, if there's a high number of replies, as was the case with a recent thread ( you know which one I'm talking about), I'll skim through it. Most of all, I make sure to check out just about every picture post.

I also go by the thread title more so that the poster.

I also mainly go by title, but there are some exceptions of course.
Keets and Andy always make you think and Russ's posts always make you feel like a weenie photographer in comparison, coppercoins is just so damn good you have to listen --- so there are some "must read" people. I can say after having been here a few years that you learn who actually knows what they are saying (like the above 4 guys (( yes there are many others also)) ) and those who just use these boards as a playground.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • I read replies to my own (of course), and then I go by title.
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

Usually only go by title. If I notice Coinguy or dizzyfoxx started the thread, I might well open it even though the title did not alert me.image

He doesn't post that often but when MrHalfDime does post, it's good. Real good.
  • MrSpudMrSpud Posts: 4,499 ✭✭✭
I usually open up posts from Russ, Lucy, Mad Marty, Keets, Coinguy, Dizzy, Coppercoins, Dickybetz, Notlogical, Condor and many others unless the title makes me think the thread will be a political rant. I did also used to enjoy opening up ones by Dorkcarl before he disappeared just because he used to question things in a way I found interesting. I also tend to open any that I think will be educational regarding coin preservation, toning, photography or cherrypicking. I also like to open up ones that look like questions, especially but not always by a newbie, just in case I might know something that will help them.

Yes, he and RHEDEN is great too! We need the real hard-core collectors post more often.

I would like to see more threads on messed up coins to help identify problem coins better.

I open all threads with "wannabe", and "moderns" in the title. image

Seriously, I pretty much look at titles rather than posters, but when Mgoodm3 or Shylock post an image thread they're both an automatic open since I look at their images as a goal. I also like Marty's threads because that goofball epitomizes what this hobby is supposed to be about - FUN!

Oh, and Coinguy1, Sunnywood, (Cardinal on those rare ocassions when he posts), ColonialCoinUnion, and any of the other very experienced guys who post stuff I don't know a damned thing about.

Bottom line for me, I guess, is that any post from anyone can be a good one.

Me too !!! Pretty stunning how much he knows about Early Dollars and the examples he has. Condor101, Frank the Pug when he was still with us, LucyBop ( she`s pretty funny and entertaining as well ! image ), Coinguy1, Lord M, and Frattlaw when he was around. They typically are the regulars I check out as they typically talk about coins and/or collecting that I`m interested in.

I don't think it matters who starts the thread, just as long as it's got a catchy title.

I mostly just go by title or the things that come up in searched though.

I agree. Especially if it has "wannabe dealer", "coin posse", "widget", or "modern marketmaker" in the title. image

I just love it here period!

Most of the time I try and read each and every post...

Sometimes we laugh together, we cry together, or we flame each other...

But we are like a family here, and I believe we all have one thing in common, the love for this great and wonderful hobby.

  • I often go by thread titles. I skip threads that look like flame fests or endless banter about wannabes or modern bashing. I skip threads with titles like "What would you do if..." or "Have you ever...". I read more threads when I have more spare time. image
