They are the REDBOOK printing plates!!! Woo Hoo!

MadMartyMadMarty Posts: 16,697 ✭✭✭
So many people have asked about getting them, I'm putting a small selection up on E-Bay tomorrow. Took some pictures out of the redbook and the plates are for the redbook coins!! Here is what I'm putting up tomorrow night. I figured in order to give everyone a chance at them I better put them up for auction. The Morgan and the Saint are the only ones. Here are the pics straight from the redbook.

These were the plates used in making the redbooks and bluebooks. From the way I understand it, the letter type and the pictures were set, printed on a white sheet of paper, then photographed and reduced to the page size for the book. The offset master was then made and used for printing.

Here's an aluminum press plate that was used for making a newspaper on that fateful day. Wonder if this worth anything?

From what I remember being in the press room the press plate is wrapped around a drum and picks up ink off a roller and puts the ink on a padded roller that then transfers it to the paper. I would love to have a couple of these coin plates for my collection.

The only reason I posted it is that sooooo many people PMed me and this gives everyone a chance. I talked to the dealer I received the plates from, accroding to him, the plates along with the type were set into a box the size of the page, and the pages were printed right from the type. They started to use offset printing in the late 60s.
