Bay State Coin Show Report!

Wow what a busy day today! The Bay State show was held today at the Radisson in downtown Boston. Personally, I had a very good day, both wholesale and retail. I also did a lot of buying.
Gold seemed to be especially hot at the show. I think it had to do with the drop in the spot price. I sold a lot of better date gold $2.5's and $5's, some very reasonably priced IMO. I was happy to pick up 4 better date $2.5 Lib's at Greysheet bid or so. I flipped a few right away to a couple of people who appreciated the difficulty of finding some of the pieces!
Toned type seemed to be strong too! I sold several pieces at both wholesale and retail! Many collectors who were walking around really seemed to be after nice original color. I sold a few gorgeous pieces to Jeremy (airplanenut)(a nice proof IHC and a three cent silver). Jeremy showed me a few of his coins, some very nice pieces, and we exchanged stories for quite awhile!
Series that seemed to be slow at this show inlcuded large cents, Lincoln cents, three cent nickels, seated coinage (both MS and PR), gold dollars, $20 Libs, and classic commems.
I also met with a few board members, including Darin5 who I bought a nice Matte Lincoln from and in return he bought a nice original 1813 50c that ended the day with Cape! It was a nice original coin which was very solid for the grade.
I met with MrHalfDime and we had a very nice discussion about half dime varieties.
Cape also stopped by my table to introduce himself. He showed me a few of his purchases which were absolute beauties! I bought a nicely toned Standing quarter from him as well. We also discussed his set of Buffalo Nickels that are with ANR this coming week. I encourage all who like Buffalos to check this auction out! Cape knows how to pick out nice coins, specifically Buffalos!
I also had the pleasure of meeting with ColonialCoinUnion, WTCG and others. I am sorry if I forgot you!
I picked up a few gorgeous pieces, many which I held for a matter of minutes in some cases! I picked up a KILLER 20c piece that is simply stunning as well as a nice AU 50 1877 1c in PCGS. Other pickups included a few colorful trimes, a small lot of EF Bust Halfs, a few slightly better date gold pieces, and several gorgeous toned Buffalo Nickels. Buying was definitely good at the show, well above average.

<< <i>Thanks for the update. >>
I bought an extra dirty $5 today! Too bad it isn'y a better date for ya RYK!
Actually met up with a number of board members here, Toneddollars, Cape, Greattoning, a lurker (I'm not spilling the beans unless I get the A-ok ), Airplanenut and Mr. Halfdime, to name a few. Besides Toneddollars breaking my chops from morning to night, it was a treat.
Comparing this show with past shows, I would say this is the slowest Boston show I have seen, IN GENERAL, in recent memory. I've been selling coins here and there, buying a few coins here and there, but absolutely nothing to write home about. Again, comparing this show to past shows here in Boston.
I would describe it as "soft", or "cautious", but hardly any sort of panic setting in. Not much floating around that seemed to make you want to buy it. (Did see a really cool 1796 25c PCGS Fine/15 that was flat out "nice").
Not a bad show but not good enough to assume Saturday is going to be busy.
We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

By the way, do you still own the "dirty $5"?
If so, what's the date?

I met Nick at the show where he explained that he is actually not from North Carolina. I'm not sure why I thought he was, but I did, and hes not.
Also saw 'cape', (ed), who looks like a guy about to make a killing on the sale of some Buffalo Nickels.
It was a pretty good time all-around - plus I had my 10 year-old son with me all-day Saturday and you can't beat that cool father-and-son coin stuff.
