Coin on the right is in an ms68 holder it's a pop1 coin do you think I have a chance for an upgrade? I've owned the coin on the left for 4 yrs and always thought it was a monster. Any thoughts?

    A bit of a tangent...

You have just illustrated why purchasing top population coins makes me uneasy. What's the price difference? Is it really worth it? Personally, I'd be more than happy with your coin (which I prefer over the 68 based on the pics image ), or even a PQ 66, and buy other coins I liked with the money saved.....Mike

It is really a great coin... and it is still the same whether in a 67 or 68 holder...

    Caitlin,

Looking at your coin I like the solid striking detail and seperation of features. Extremely clean with very limited marks and very eye-appeal. The only thing that I question is how is the luster on your coin compared to the Ms-68 coin. From the photo, It looks a bit sharper/ crisper on the 68? Could this be the single limiting factor?

  • Is that a small mark above the feather on yours?

Coin is loaded with tons of luster, rainbow toning and is housed in an older green holder.image

YOU FOOLS! Can't you SEE the difference? Look at the buffalo's weenie. It is a trifle longer on the right hand coin.

    Turn in your ANA cards.

Caitlin...........when you get to that high of a grade, you may as well be mixing apples and oranges.

BOTH coins are superb........13-D, even with the lower mintage, is sometimes the coin of choice for type sets.

I would be beside myself if I didn't say that you have a shot......to me, your coin exhibits a much clearer and more pronounced mintmark punch.

That is the exception to the rule for 13-D. A high percentage were produced with filled D's, for some reason.

That, in itself, would not warrent a higher grade, but, in my opinion, yours is an equal to the other.

GO FOR BROKE........It can't hurt, cept for the slabbing charge.

    Hope this helps.............

Both coins are exceptional, certainly yours is as nice as the 68 you posted, and as it always is at this lofty level your chances of an upgrade depend upon who grades it and how their day is going.

there both two very nice coins! and yes you should set the coin up with your 36d in 68 ,that way thell remember what a 68 looks like!

  • Let me start out by saying that both Buffs are exceptional. I like the eye appeal of your coin better, but i think the 68 is a little cleaner. What i mean by that is mark free. I think i can see a little horizonal mark on the neck of the indian. Keep us updated if you do try. Thanks for the wonderful Buff pictures.

Id wait to hear what Marty has to say about buff's stuff...
  • I thank God for wide screens.

the look of the 67- outweighs the 68 no doubt.

compare the hair tie on both- the 67 is well pronounced, the short feather has more detail to it.

based on what I see- if you DON"T get an 8 on yours- then there is many fishy things going on in the grading room.

it should have a shot at a 9 IMO.

    I like it.

  • Make sure when you resubmit it, that you give them this URL, so they can see the comp pic's

Lighting may have a little to do with it, but your coin has better detail and should be upgraded.

    Congratulations in advance !!

  • Nice coin. The front lower leg has a little less detail on your coin. Still very nice, but wouldnt try to upgade.

  • Keep it in the green tag. I recommend keeping the "juice" in the coin. When (and if) you sell you'll get the right price. Unfortunately IMO, with only 1 grading higher, grading room politics will keep it out of a 68 no matter how nice your coin is. Totally unfair, but unfortunately I think thats the reality in most cases. So now you will be out of a nice green tag, just to donate money to PCGS. If you do send it in for review, try to maintain the Green tag if it doesn't work.

Anyone that thinks they can make comparitive grading decisions off an image on a computer screen is nuts. Have you seen the MS68 in person? And even if your coin is nicer, it doesn't mean it will [or deserves to] go into an MS68 holder ... the coin on the right could be a mistake.

Besides - right now you've got a higher chance of getting a downgrade to MS66 than an upgrade to MS68. image

My coin is on the left and from the image it has alot more detail.

I think your coin looks nicer. It could be the lighting, but your date appears much stronger.

    Nice!
