1824 Bustie (Grade Revealed)

I actually have a total of 4 new ones but one of them has not arrived yet.

After I posted about purchasing the 1810 TomB sent me a PM telling me that he had 3 coins that he thought I would like so after seeing some pics of them he sent them to me on approval and I decided to keep all three of them. All three of them were basically $105 each. The coins were a 1824, 1825, and a 1830. I am waiting on an 1829. So far after purchasing 6 coins the average price of the coins comes out to exactly $105 each. I will be posting a Bustie a night until I have posted all three that I have in hand. Here is the first. An 1824 that is graded by PCGS. Please guess the grade. Tomorrow night I will post the grade that PCGS gave it as well as a picture of her in the album.

PCGS gave her a VF30.

Looks to me to be an O.117. The low position of the D in UNITED is a dead giveaway for Reverse die P. Everything else seems to match up well, both obverse and reverse. I'd grade her at a strong VF35 and both sides well matched in regards to wear.

Crust factor is a solid 9 on a scale of 1-10.

ps. Can I just say, thank God my new Overton arrived.....I'm back!!!

VF-30 or 35. Just misses EF.

I went XF40 on it before looking at the other guys' grades.

I wouldn't be surprised if PCGS put XF on the label. For that matter, I wouldn't be surprised if they put VF20 on the label either. In case y'all haven't noticed the TPG's tend to be a bit "here and there" with their Bust grading. I'm stickin' to my strong VF35 assesment.

At first I thought VF30...then after looking at it a little longer I thought maybe VF35...it kind of grows on you, has nice appeal for a circ. I would almost go EF40..Nice BH.

Haha, folks commenting the pic looks too dark. My guess is this is exactly how the coin looks in person, as it should. This is my kinda coin.

has good taste. I'd probably say it's a middle of the road VF. Nice and crusty.... man style coins!!

I sure am glad you appreciate nice original looking Bust halves. Rather than those ones with blast white centers and the vibrant "BLUE" around the periph. OK, don't get me started.

Yep. She very dark without lots of light. She is a very crusty original beauty.
