PCGS vs. NGC world submissions

Is there a particular reason why people seem to favor NGC (In terms of the number of graded coins out there) in regards to submitting modern world coins...or world coins in general?

ie. cheaper, easier grading, habit, etc.

Do you think the PCGS's new lower rates for modern world coins will cause a shift in submissions here?

I've been collecting high grade DCAM/CAM designated Washington Quarters, but have sold my meager collection to switch to the darkside. Right now I'm all over the place with my purchases (the darkside simply has too much to offer), but I plan on narrowing them down to mostly high grade S. American silver circulation coins. Right now I'm interested in Cuba. Older coins are wonderful and not to impossibly expensive as far as Cuba goes. But overall I'll probably end up with a lot of "modern crap" because modern is cheap and I have no stigma agaist moderns or slabbing moderns. So I'm wondering where I'm going to find myself on the PCGS/NGC slabbing spectrum.

Cheers,
Ryan

Turnaround time. NGC 3-4 weeks, PCGS 3-6 months.

And resale prices. In general, they're both on the same level I believe, unlike US coins. But we all have our preferences, and it also depends on the country or even the metal.

I can't speak to "moderns," but NGC received my latest world coin submission on 2/21/06, and I received the graded coins back yesterday.

Grades were posted online after only about 9 business days. - Preussen

I am absolutely certain that PCGS has no earthly idea how to implement and execute FIFO.

I have an order which was only for imaging and reholdering. It arrived on 1/30/06, it was imaged on 2/14/06.....it is now 3/9/06, and it HAS NOT SHIPPED YET.image

I called CS on 3/3, and they were supposed to "investigate". I was pleasant then, I WILL NOT BE PLEASANT TOMORROW!!!!

    Ahem, that's my current perspective.

Mac, I know what you're talking about, but honestly now, would this be enough reason to submit Swiss material to NGC next time? Or British milled gold?

Of course there are other countries where NGC has the edge. Greece is one of them.

I am not endorsing one over the other. However, I will say NGC seems to be interested in "getting it right". I submitted a 1680 Crown from England and they attributed the Bust correctly... I was happy with that.

ANACS will likely not see many submissions from me.

When it comes to turnaround, PCGS is terrible. But say that you're submitting coins once a month. After the first three-four months, you'd start receiving a parcel per month. image

White slabs with dark copper (and my poor photography skills) drive me nuts when taking pictures. I also can't stand a small coin buried in thick insert. For large silver coins NGC slabs look fine. Gold actually looks better with a black ICG intercept insert IMHO. Anyway, PCGS slabs just seem to work better (for me) on a much wider array of coins. The translucent slab lets me make the background any color I want and I've never had shadow problems photographing smaller coins.

That said, I just noticed economy service went from 40 to 45 business days. image Guess my submission entered 2/15 isn't going to be done anytime soon.
