Which is a better deal (if either)?

Like many, this years nfl draft class has me excited. Having always liked the press pass design and cards of players in their college uniforms and I was thinking of buying a case....having a good time busting it, cherry picking a few cards, and then selling the rest on ebay.

Let me remind you I've bought 1 box of cards in the past ten years (topps aa retired) so I'm not as sophisticated as many...and this is the first time it's ever popped into my mind that buying a full case is logical at any level.

Needless to say, this is what i've come up with 1/2 case of press pass signature, or a full case of press pass regular. Which is the better buy?

  • Save your money with Press Pass. Use the same amount for a high end Playoff or Upper Deck product

I don't care for the non-NFL licensed products like Press Pass or SAGE. I would never consider them for my collection.

I never heard of either and I voted correctly!
  • Save your money. Not enough following on Press Pass and Sage. There are reasons why you can always find press pass at Wal-Mart.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

2006 football is going to be one of the hottest products in hobby history (at least for football collectors). 2004 was a good year, but the 2006 has more anticipation. There are at least 3 potential franchise QBs - Leinart, Vince Young, Jay Cutler - 3 starting RBs - Bush, DeAngelo Williams, Lendale White - 3 top defensive stars - AJ Hawk, Mario Williams, Mike Huff. The only weak spot is WR. AJ Hawk could end up being the most popular if he goes to a team like the Raiders or Packer.

I can wait until the new stuff comes out.

Like everyone has mentioned, Press Pass and SAGE are considered junk by most modern collectors. I think they have a slight following this early in the season, before the real brands release their issues, and there is nothing else out there of the current rookie class. Once Topps, Playoff, or UD releases something, anything - those cards lose what little steam they had, and fast.

I think you could buy Press Pass early and set up at a show and do well. Tons of guys that you can get $5-$10 for base cards when everyone is buzzing for their first cards and the autos will be crazy high money.

For the first time ever-- well, OK, second time ever-- I'm really considering buying a couple cases of SP when it comes out and just sitting on them. The only problem is I did this in 1999, with what I thought was an absolute can't miss rookie class, and ended up having my lunch handed to me. So I'm a little skittish. But on the surface this seems like a slam dunk, for all the reasons that ndleo pointed out. Draft classes like this only come around ever 20 years or so. If even a couple of the first rounders pan out unopened SP and Contenders is going to be like cardboard gold.

Boopotts - 1999 had some much promise. 6 top QBs, 2 stud backs, 2 #1 WRs, and a couple of great defensive players. What killed that year is the collapse of all the QBs except for McNabb and Ricky going wacky. Dante was good for a while, but I think he done being superstar. Plus there was absolutely nothing from the later rounds.

The 2006 draft seems a little deeper and isn't so QB heavy.
