I purchased this 1884-CC PCGS MS-64 (GSA) PL Morgan Dollar last night at auction. As these keep getting more popular with collectors, it's getting more difficult to find the right coin at the right price.
I like the fact that this one also has the GSA designation. Here are the seller's original photos:

I am curious to see when I receive this recently graded Morgan, how the current PCGS MS-64 PL grading standards compare with those of some of my more vintaged certified CC Morgans.

that is a eye ball call- not a pic call.
The ear area appears OK to me in this photo, especially for the price that I paid: 1884-CC Auction Listing - Additional Photos

Joe: I actually purchased this coin at aution on Wednesday night, not Thursday night. I don't know if you were online Wednesday night, however I am glad that we were not bidding against one another for her.

It looks better in hand than in photo.
now check it for the 4A vam...
It's a nice above average 64 pl. We tried to talk Stu into including it in the auction he was having but no such luck.

I wasn't gonna mention the drop kick- cuz if he does put it for auction - we can still cut him at .05 on the dollar- We know why he kicked it.
now the eagle has grass stains on its knees.
BTW- nice kick Stuart.!!

Please check your new 84CC and see if has a "Pinned Wing" like Eyoung429's new discovery VAM shown in his recent thread.
OBTW. Sweet coin!!
If I only had a dollar for every VAM I have...err...nevermind...I do!!

I did check this coin for the VAM-4A "Pinned Wing", and did not find it on this example. However, I 've got additional 1884-CC's in my Morgan Dollar collection which I'd also eventually like to examine for this and other interesting VAM varieties.
However, I was very pleased to find that it does possess the Repunched 1 and 8 in the date, as well as Strongly Doubled "In God We Trust" motto on the reverse.

Nice Coin Stuart!
I saw this thread so I took a look at the 84 CC I have in an GSA graded MS 63* and low and behold I found the Pinned Wing variety!
Here is a pic of the gouge:
Anybody know if this adds any value to the coin yet?

I also like the fact that it's got the PCGS GSA designation, so that I know the coin's provenance and that it has not been dipped or conserved like many Morgan Dollars.
