Question for anyone with a mixed PCGS/NGC set "across the street"

When you go to enter a PCGS coin in your NGC registry set, do you enter the cert number just like you would here, and does NGC automatically verify it? I'm wondering how PCGS would allow a competitor to verify that information against their system, unless maybe NGC wrote a script to submit the cert thru the existing PCGS web interface?

  • Sean, I just enter the PCGS number and it recognizes the number and after a day or so the coin is added.

My 1980 mint set at NGC is actuall the same on in my sig, it is 100% PCGS. Here is a NGC link

    Sean,

I agree with the above, in that all I have to do is type in the cert. number of the PCGS slab
and it will show up in my set as 'pending', and then a day or so later it will have been verified
and added to the slot along with the points for that coin.

The only problem I had was adding a 1959 PCGS MS66RB, the system kicked it out 3 or 4 times.
I guess it didn't like the 'RB' designation. After emailing NGC, the coin was accepted.

Huh... from what you say it sounds like they have someone manually checking the certs and accepting the coins into their registry. They probably have their web software collect all the PCGS entries in a bucket and download once a day. Interesting, and thanks.
