Ebay selling question.

I'm sure this has been asked a million times. I sold an item, auction ended on 2-27-06. Still awaiting payment. Have sent a couple of emails to winner to let me know how payment was to be made. Most recent one I sent yesterday stating that if I did not at least hear from them by March 13th, that I was going to file a NPB. I said would be 14 days since the auction was over and that is plenty of time to contact me on how payment was to be made. I know there are issues on why people can not correspond. I figure 5-7 days for a notification on payment mailed or not is plenty of time. Is this unreasonable??

I would send a 2nd chance offer to the backup bidder, especially if it's a hard to find or big $ item. Do it before he moves on to a different one or spends his $$. If he buys it then the 1st buyer missed his chance. Does your auction say when payment is due?

  • I don't think it's that unreasonable - I just filed one on a buyer who purchased an item from my ebay store 17 days ago (a $5 card) and hasn't contacted me yet. Doesn't ebay state in it's auction rules something about 72 hours to contact the buyer/seller?

The more important question - can retaliatory negs still be filed after a NPB is filed?

Yes they can be filed. If the buyer doesn't respond then they can't be negatives. It comes out looking like this

i could not pick up but sold it for him

I didn't have to do a thing to get rid of the (-), the red, etc.

You have to open a dispute, wait 8 days, then close the dispute to get your FV fees back. Then you can neg them without getting retaliated on. They can post comments in your account, but you won't be hit with a negative and everyone will be able to see that it's from someone who simply didn't pay.

They could still neg you during the 8 day dispute period.

Very reasonble. If I do not recieve Payment in 10 days I send out a courtesy(reminder) e mail first,If no response at 14 day interval
I then advise buyer that if I do not hear from him in 48 hours one way or another I will take proper action and cancel transaction.
I believe I have only had 2 non payers since Feb 99.

All my auctions state that I expect to receive payment within 7-10 days. Once 7 days have passed, I will send a reminder email through ebay and will seperately contact the buyer to ask whether or not they have sent payment yet. If I do not get any response from the buyer in the next 3 days, I begin the Unpaid Item dispute process.

I'm currently going through this with a buyer now. His emails are bouncing back to me, but from his feedback, he appears to be paying other sellers. I've also tried to contact him through ebay just to touch base, but no response. So, I have no other options but to start the dispute.
