They have been going for more lately, I have seen a few on E-bay go for $160+, The article in SMR a month or so ago really got people looking into the 84 donruss.

Actually the factory sets that I have seen come wrapped like cello packs. Are you saying people have searched those and have re-sealed them??

I opened a factory set a couple of weeks ago. I was wrapped in celophane. I have had the set since the 80's. I thought the centering would be fairly good. I was very disappointed in the lack of good centering.

As far as the corners were concerned, they have a slight roundness to them due to being in the cello wrap, I would guess. If sharpness of corners determine how high the grade will be, then I do not believe any of the cards will grade a 10. There may be a fair number of 9's if the corners don't need to be perfectly sharp.

I am saying that be aware that the cards may be more off center than you expect and there may not be any 10's in the box. There may be a fair number of 9's, and certainly a lot of 8's. Pay what this would be worth to you. I know it depends on which cards are centered and which are not. Not many, maybe 3 or 4, of my star and low pop cards were nicely centered. The rest were 60/40 or worse.

Maybe others have had better luck with their factory sets, but this is my experience.

Hmm. Now may be a good time to unload one of the two wax boxes I have left...on to eBay to research...

'84 Donruss activity has definitely picked up since the SMR article. Yes, the factory sets have seen a nice boost into the $150-170 range.
