Is Bonds a Hall of Famer?

AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
With the recent revelations he's been mixing performance enhancing drugs for several years, transforming himself into a home run hitter, does that take away his likelihood of making the hall?

If you had a vote, what would you say?

Comments

  • If I had a vote, No.

Unfortunately, it will be hard for a lot of writers to overlook his numbers. He will make the Hall, just as McGwire, Sosa and Palmeiro will.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Bonds will probably win the comeback player of the year award and everybody will forget that he is a cheater just like everyone did with Giambi.
  • No. Bonds, Palmerio, and Sosa are now doomed.

Big difference between Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, Palmiero & Giambi is that Giambi is the only one who apologized and admitted any sort of wrong doing......granted, he still cheated, and thats not an excuse, but many people, myself included are willing to forgive somewhat. It is much like the situation with Pete Rose.....everyone at this point seems to be of the opinion that if Rose had just come out and admitted from day one he bet then he would have been given some sort of reprieve. It is Bonds and the other clowns that will never get any sort of sympathy as long as they continue to deny any wrong doing.

Well of course he's going to be in the Hall of Fame on the first ballot, but his playing time frame will be known as the "steroid era" in MLB...IE: tainted.

I personally would not vote him in if I had the power to vote however I believe that MLB will find a way to sugar coat this steroid situation in order not to get another black eye. They will try to buy some excuse in these players favor. One way or another they will find a way to get these mentioned jerks in the Hall Of Fame.I sure wont attend or watch the ceromonies,Thats a FOR SURE.

Bonds will get in ... but not on the first, secon, or third ballot. It could be a long time actually.

Fact: Bonds was already amongst the BASEBALL LEGENDS prior to '98. Now he is a marked man, and has turned off many writers who simply will never, ever vote for him, regardless of what happens in these latest accusations. He is "guilty" of something that MLB never really had a position on until last season.

I disagree. I don't think there is any possible way to sugar coat this latest turn in the Bonds saga. MLB needs to let it play itself out, and step in when it needs/has to with a swift, full and appropiate repurcussion for Mr. Potato Head.

I would vote but you need to have a choice that says "Yes, but I do care that he cheated". He is everything bad that everybody mentioned but he is still a great ball player. He just isn't as good as his stats show. I dislike him as much as the next guy but sometimes people talk like he has zero baseball talent. Remember, he is still making direct contact with a major league fastball, over and over again. His just goes farther than it should. People get voted in with 200 HR's. Come on. Bonds could do that in his sleep. He's still a jerk, but you have to at least admit that he is better than half the people already in the Hall.

Giambi will never threaten a sacred record in the sport like Bonds is.

Actually Giambi did not apologize directly for using. Giambi just stated that he was sorry and you had to read between the lines. I think Bonds would probably get a free pass if he played for the Yankees. Remember Sheffield and Giambi both used.
  • I believe that McGwire will be the sounding board. If he gets in, there is no way they can keep Bonds or anyone else out.

IMO the biggest reason Bonds is being pounded like this is because he is threatening the most revered record in the game. Actually, I would think this is quite obvious.

If not I think you too should hook up, I think you, him and your collective hatred for anything NY would make a perfect love affair. And where is my defense of these guys? Your words saying Giambi apologizing (and it supposed to mean something) is laughable. He didn't apologize for anything (saying 'I am sorry...though I can't say what I am apologizing for') and he only said so AFTER his grand jury testimony was leaked! Why are you defending this guy?

If my thoughts are so meaningless (as you would try to have us believe), then why are you even responding? Or does my speaking out on the hypocrisy of yankee 'fans' strike a chord and you feel compelled to reply?

Giambi is a bum. An out and out bum. He cheated, he lied about it, he took $100 million from the yankees, then when his testimony was leaked, then and only then, did he say he was sorry. He didn't say he was sorry until AFTER. But yet you want to defend this guy?

And you wonder why people laugh at yankee fans, and criticize the team?

You are willing to forgive Giambi, I wonder if you are willing to do the same for Bonds?

I hate Bonds. More so for being a racist a-hole than for cheating.

In any event, I have to say he does belong in the HOF unless they come up with a formal stipulation that he can't get in. Certainly, his "pre-juice" days would qualify him. I also don't believe in making him wait either. If he deserves in, he should go in on the first ballot. I don't believe in this BS of intentionally leaving someone out just to prove a point and that applies to a-holes like him.

I also despise the asterisk idea as well. A record is a record and it should stand as such (even if we all know it's tainted as hell now).

Without absolute proof, which will never exist, Bonds will unfortunately skate into the HOF.

I really hope the guy doesn't pass Ruth or Aaron and just retires. If he still is on steroids, he's a complete idiot for still playing and I hope he gets caught. And if he's not, no chance he'll be able to hit home runs with the same frequency he has in the past... it's physically impossible to not lose bat speed at his age, it has happened to everyone who has ever played the game (who has not had chemical help).

That's what I am thinking is the most likely scenario. He will hit 30 or so homers this season and then claim his knees can't take it anymore.

He won't mind passing up the dead white guy, but he will not wan't to piss off Hank Aaron.

No Pete Rose in the HOF but Barry Bonds? That is just plain stupid.
