    Pistareen:

Assuming your pm is not obscene nor libelous ( image ) can you post it to the thread if it contains information about the book? I'd like to know more about the book since I have never had a copy in hand.

P.S.: If the pm is obscene or libelous, PLEASE send me a copy!!! image

No no no, nothing obscene. C'mon, I'm a good boy!

What I told RTS was, in essence, that the book has superb photographs but the content is not exactly state of the art. Better places to learn about counterfeit halfpence, counterfeit 2 reales, and the roles of foreign coins circulating in the US include:

The Colonial Newsletter, published by ANS. This IS the state of the art. Check it out here: http://www.numismatics.org/cnl/

Various Yahoo egroups devoted to colonial coins and these specialities. Of course, don't trust every expert you find in these groups as some may turn out to be, well, yahoos. A close friend from back home in Pennsylvania used to say that an expert was anyone more than 50 miles from home with a briefcase. Sometimes they can be a part-time numismatist in front of their computer in their PJs too.

I occasionally treat these subject in my Numismatist column, called "Early American Money."

While there is some interesting information in Forgotten Coins (and some marvelous photos of some very interesting varieties), I might advise borrowing a copy from the ANA library before investing in it, as money spent on a CNL subscription may pay off better in the long run. Of course, I'm on the editorial staff of CNL so I may be biased.
