Hard to tell in this picture. 66RD for sure, maybe 67RD.

    Cast counterfeit.

Wait, that's a Lincoln, and from the likes of it already slabbed.

MS 66 RD is my guess....Mike

Not enough red to go full red. The surfaces seem to be having some sort of bubbling problem. I will go with:

    MS-64RB

    Doubled Die!

Even with the blistering, the coin is worth some money.

You are correct about the pictures, and I do envy some of the forum members skillful hand at photography. Such is not my forte.
I've added some new shots showing the obverse in quadrants to the best of my ability.....and will add the reverse later.

  • Curious, If the zinc continues to corode under the copper of this coin would it be covered under the PCGS gaurantee.

Considering the coin is slabbed by NGC, I guessing the answer is no. image

I'm also guessing the coin was slabbed by NGC sometime before they put a guarantee on copper. Prior to blistering, the coin looks like it might have been a 67RD. This is the problem with copper coated zinc cents.

84 double ear- I found a bunch of these in change 20 years ago.

I'll post results later this evening

Some of you got the RED right and yes it's NGC's.

Sorry, should have payed more attentionimage
But does this mean that NGC will not buy back this coin? Theres no way this coin could grade 68RD with those blisters now. Or would they?

I'm to lazy to look up the guarantee, but as I recall, NGC will only replace the coin if it's slabbed within 10 years of resubmission AND if "NUMISMATIC GUARANTEE CORPORATION" is written on the tag.

This particular coin/slab predates the guarantee.

well I recently sold this one on ebay and it has the same type characteristics..... it was an MS65 slab by PCGS.... I think this bubbling was common as I've had three or four doubled ears that all had this "blistering" effect.

PCGS will guarantee the cent without condition. I like NGC, but here's a case where PCGS beats NGC.

I predict post 1982 Lincoln cents that show no blistering will become big price winners in the coming decades.
