Does anyone know when the first coin album was sold to the public?

... and who sold it?

Does anyone have a very old coin album to show?

I'd try and find David Lange and ask him. He collects old coin holders, boards, and albums.

I had a Whitman board for Indian head pennys that had a 1935 copyright

it was something like 14 inches by 10 inches and had blue velvet and suitable for framing

no pictures, sold it a couple years ago

Beistle made the first coin album in late 1928.

The oldest coin albums (actually coin boards) that I current have are from J.K.Post, 1935. They are some of my most treasured numismatic related items. Whitman later purchased the rights to market these boards in 1936.

P.S. If anyone knows where I might find one of the old Beistle coin albums, I'd pay a pretty penny for it.

Here is the first page of the patent from the patent number that is on the Wayte Raymond Boards. Like Shamika said, it was patented by Beistle

  • Thanks, all, for sharing this interesting information. I wish I owned an old coin album - it would be nice to be able to show it off to fellow collectors.
