Bonds article - Even more evidence that he cheated

I am not surprised by this at all. Can't wait until he blows a nut on the diamond

A new book, written by two San Francisco Chronicle reporters who have reported extensively on the BALCO steroid distribution scandal, claims Barry Bonds took a wide array of performance-enhancing drugs over at least five seasons and is by far the most damning and extensive collection of evidence against the San Francisco Giants slugger.

According to a report on SI.com (an excerpt from the book, Game of Shadows, appears in the March 13 issue of Sports Illustrated) Bonds began using Winstrol in 1998, but eventually became more sophisticated in his doping regimen. Winstrol, also known as stanozolol, is the steroid which Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson and the Baltimore Orioles' Rafael Palmeiro tested positive for.

Ken Rosenthal:
Harder to deny
As a new book chronicles in detail Barry Bonds' alleged steroid use, it becomes harder to buy Bonds' lame denials.

By 2001, when Bonds broke Mark McGwire's single-season home-run record, authors Mark Fainaru-Wada and Lance Williams write the Giants slugger was using the designer steroids referred to as the Cream and the Clear, insulin, human growth hormone, testosterone decanoate and tenbolone, a steroid created to improve the muscle quality of cattle.

According to the book, Bonds would even order trainer Greg Anderson to start cycles of steroid use even when he was not due to begin one, calling for them when he felt his energy and power start to drop.

The authors compiled their information over a two-year investigation into BALCO that included court documents, affidavits filed by BALCO investigators, confidential memoranda of federal agents, grand jury testimony, audiotapes and interviews with more than 200 sources.

BALCO tracked Bonds' usage, detailing drugs, quantities, intervals and Bonds' testosterone levels. These doping calendars and folders would wind up in the hands of federal agents when they raided the business on Sept. 3, 2003.

The book also describes how Bonds first turned to steroids following the 1998 season, attributing the decision to jealousy of the attention lavished on McGwire and Sammy Sosa during their pursuit of Roger Maris' single-season home-run record, along with a sense that McGwire was a juicer himself. It was after that season, the book said, that Bonds hooked up with Anderson, who was known to obtain steroids and growth hormone from AIDS patients who were legally prescribed the drugs, but sold them to make money.

The authors also write that the Giants would later discover through a background check that Anderson was connected to a gym that was known as a place to score steroids and was rumored to be a dealer. But not wanting to upset their superstar player, the team continued to allow Anderson free rein inside their clubhouse.

According to the book, Anderson started Bonds on Winstrol and subsequently added Deca-Durabolin and growth hormone to the regimen.

The authors write Anderson hooked up Bonds with BALCO and its founder Victor Conte after the 2000 season.

In addition to staggering details about Bonds' drug usage, the authors also describe him as given to sexual dysfunction, hair loss and wild mood swings that included periods of rage — all most likely because of the rampant steroid use.

Bonds has testified before the grand jury that he did not know what the substances that Anderson gave him were. While Bonds testified under a grant of immunity, he was informed that the immunity did not extend to perjury

Is anyone really surprised? If Roger had an asterisk, McGwire and Bonds deserve 3 of them.
