Why is this quarter like it is?

Curious as to why this quarter has the copper showing around the edges.
Not normal.
An error.
Was this quarter exposed to in a way to make this happen?

An opinions are appreciated.

Hope the pics are good enough.

It does run the full edge of the coin.
Almost like it has a copper center.

Thankyou,

  • Copper shows on the edges of all post 1964 quarters that are struck for circulation. If you are wondering why there are no reeds on the edge then that is due to post mint damage and not an error. Sorry.
  • Thanks.
I've notice copper showing on coins like you mentioned.
But just never to that degree.

    Thankyou,

  • Throw a quarter in a drying machine and you'll get the same effect. The reeding wears smooth and flat with the repeated tumbling against the dryer walls.

Lots of casino quarters will wear the same way too.
