bonds took steroids? who knew?

it was only a matter of time before this book came out - is anyone really surprised? think this will send his cards even lower, Raffy-style?

Nothing really shocking. It will be no different than any other accusation Barry has received. He will be seen one day, and tell everyone to look at the pain on his son's face for all that we have done to him with our web of lies. I all ready feel bad for the guy. image

Nah. If his cards were to take a nosedive, it would have already done so. This has been well known for a long time and even his most staunch fans will admit that he probably took "something" (although unknowingly). In any case, this will probably have no effect on his marketability. With Raffy, it was more of a sudden shock and definite betrayal due to his testimony at the hearings. Bond may appear to be an arrogant, unrepentent a-hole, but that is much better than looking like a lying weasel. Raffy is a borderline star to begin with in my opinion.

I think it's interesting that supposedly Bonds said he didn't need to respond to the book but didn't say why?

Like e.g.: "the books is a lie!"

If this doesn't go away, I think that his HR record is in serious jeorpady of being erased.

  • What everyone forgets here is that prior to the 2003 season MLB had no steriod policy in place, so it's really a mute point as to wether he juiced knowingly or not.

Bonds is a fraud. He, McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro and any other cheater should have their records removed and their awards stripped. These guys continued to do things that are downright wrong. We're not talking about throwing a spit ball 2-3 times a game. To me, that's like the hidden ball trick or the Euphus pitch. We're talking about a much more serious matter. I say kick them out and dont look back.

    Ya know...

This makes me see Ken Griffey Jr., perhaps, in a different light. No apparent drugs and loads of HRs!

And flying, totally under the radar, is Shawn Green who has after 11 full seasons, 303 HRs!!!!

I don't think anyone would accuse him of being "pumped up?"

    autobiography book title:

Hank Aaron- I had a hammer.

    Possible future autobiography book title:

Barry Bonds- I had a syringe, some needles, steroid pills and some steroid cream.

    Cool Darin!

How about if we just shorten the title:

Barry Bonds - I took it thru the Big Toe!

Stone- great, still doesn't have the ring of, "I had a hammer". Thats got to be one of the coolest book titles I've heard, sport or non sport.

I had a book when I was a kid, Hammerin' Hank of the Braves, read and reread it along with a Roberto Clemente book I had. Hank will still be home run king in my opinion, no matter what Bonds does.

I think it wouild be hilarious if the BBWAA just put their foot down and said 'sorry, but we're keeping this tool out of the Hall of Fame'. One of the requirements to get in IMO should be that you do a good job of representing the game. If you're a total jerk-ass AND a steroid abuser you don't fit that criterion.

The chickens will come home to roost for Mr. Bonds in a few years when he's crippled and impotent. So I suppose, in a way, that will be punishment enough. But I'd still REALLY like to see him kept out of the Hall of Fame.

all I can say is that guys like Don Mattingly, Frank Thomas, Ken Griffey keep looking better as these scandals unfold.

I agree with the choice of Mattingly. Best player of the 80-90's that should be enshrined.

    Just looking at a two pictures in this mornings' newspaper, one showing Bonds at the plate, well before 1998 and one pic well after 1998, it really does look like two completely different people;

In the early picture, Bonds looks like a "normal sized guy" at the plate. But the second pic? Well Bonds looks like a "bulked-up hulkster", or better named, "...a bulked-up F~R~A~U~D~S~T~E~R"!

edit: I wonder, what my Barry Bonds "auto" bat, that I won from Topps is really worth today? image (Anyone want it? COA plus it is stored-away in a very nice, clean (...never worn, I think?) "100% cotton tube sock"! Offers anyone? LOL!). How smart I thought I was, when Topps allowed me to chose from a bunch of different autographed items, from various stars, I picked the signed Bonds bat, and it was the year before he hit 73 homers, boy was I smart! LOL!

    Please! Don't forget the Hawk!

    Andre Dawson!

edit: Dawson belted 438 Homers, ...hit 49 in 1987, (he was the NL MVP that year! BTW, ...Mattingly finished 7th in the voting for the AL MVP in 1987!) The Hawk played 21 seasons! (can u imagine Bonds playing 21 seasons?) Andre played most of his years with Montreal and the Cubbies, one can only imagine if he played 10-20 seasons for the Yankees?

    Is it really? Oh my!

    rbd

edit: P.S. Wow! You are right! This will be his 21st season! I can't believe it! That its been 20 years for barry already! What was I thinking? I guess I figured with all those years of exposed steriod usage, I figured he could never last 21 seasons, without physically falling apart. I just forgot he's already been around for twenty years! Ouch! GO AHEAD AND RETIRE BARRY! THEN COME CLEAN! MAYBE YOU WILL STILL MAKE IT INTO THE HALL WITH AN ASTEREK NEXT TO YOUR NAME?

I'm with you 100%. That's why I'm trying to get his PSA 9 rookie card before he gets into the Hall, which I think will definitely be within 3 years, hopefully in 2. I feel the same about Rice.

When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I hear you! Funny, but I just picked-up (privately) two nice Andre Dawson cards:

    1/ 1979 OPC #179 Andre Dawson PSA 10
    2/ 1978 OPC #180 Andre Dawson All-Star Rookie PSA 9

Plus, I have some other nice Dawson material "salted away"! So the Hawk being voted into the "Hall of fame" will be a pleasant plus for sure!
