Why Steve at BBCE is one of the best in the biz

I received an order this week from Steve at BBCE. One of the boxes was an 84 topps baseball wax box. Well, the box was crap....warped cards, moisture damage, etc. One email to Steve and got full apology and refund on the spot, no questions asked.

He sent me a '81 Montana rc for free. I bought appr. 35 rack packs and didnt get one, so he sent one to me.
I thought that was pretty cool.

Ron, that is the same thing that I thought when I read this!
With all of the pub and love this guy gets from this board, why in the heck would not replace an item of so little value?
Loves me some shiny!

How so? When a person buys an old wax box they are taking a gamble. I bet he and he alone would take it back with no BS attached.
many dealers would try and offer 50% or some crap.

What gamble would that be? That some dishonest SOB hasn't searched it? That's my point.
If I buy an 84 wax box, I expect it to be unsearched, clean, and undamaged. Thus, Steve - good guy that he appears to be - is merely doing what he should be doing in the first place.

The gamble I am talking about is not if a box has been searched. But that the box has decent looking cardss inside. Centering, print clarity etc. Steve has been known to take those types of boxes back too.
In the world of ebay, sellers have not always refunded 100% with no bs. For that Steve at the BBCE should be commended. That is why some here said "he is the best to buy from" To claim that he is being honored for doing what he should be doing anyway misses the point IMO.

I understand your point in theory but...
No where did bri have him canonized, anointed, or Knighted...
He simply wanted to give an accolade to a good guy.
Do you run a business? What BBCEX is doing may be part of the job but the strategy of Internal Marketing is at work here - i.e., a friend telling a friend about a service. Last month 50% of the people who came to my office were referred by people who already come to me.
Just my take.

First off, how many dealers or sellers wouldnt give anything back ? Those are the guys that there is a big problem with. Sure, they ALL should be better than that. My point in posting was that under normal circumstances a seller would be doing his job if he asked for the item to be returned for inspection, or whatever other reason. This entails the buyer to pack up the box, usually cover return shipping, and wait on the sellers decision. Steve does none of that. He doesnt question motive, doesnt want to review condition, or get his merchandise back. he takes the word of the buyer, no questions asked, makes good on the deal without having the hassle of debating the condition, reason for dissatisfaction, or having the buyer lose out on return shipping. he simply goes out of his way to make you feel good about him, his business, and your collecting dollar. If you cant see the difference between the two situations then continue to buy from others and eventually you will learn what the difference is between Steve and the rest.

Unclinch thy buttocks sir. Steve sounds like a wonderful guy. If i purchased unopened I would probably go to him as well.
But the condition of the box warranted a full refund. The no questions asked part may be the result of being a CU guy.

I can see where this is going when insults are beginning to be thrown around.........the condition of the box may have warranted the full refund, but in nearly all cases anyone else would still want the box returned for inspection........and lastly, Steve has no idea who I am or whether I am a CU guy.

Thanx Bri
That just about clears that up.
It never hurts to bring up good service whether a condition of the contract or not.
I appreciate reading about it.
Heck, I'm at war with one of my assistants at work - this is a welcome hallmark!

Wrong. I think Steve goes above and beyond what is normally expected of a seller.
