edited to add:
the vdb is incuse on the cent...that means the vdb is "raised" letters on the die.
that makes the vdb much easier to be worn off during routine cleaning/polishing.

it is ....on the 1909 ONLY.
they are on the obverse under the shoulder after that....and didn't appear on the coin at all during the years 1910 thru 1917 inclusive.
