Kirby Puckett charity auction.

One of our members has put up for auction 4 of Kirby's rookie cards with 90% going to the American Heart Association. The cause of the AMA is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

Here is the link and feel free to forward it on or bid yourself.

Kirby was one of the best hitters baseball has ever seen and his career was cut short due to complications of glaucoma. He was distraught at having to retire in the height of his playing career. In his 12 years he accomplished enough to garner a first ballot induction into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.. He suffered a stroke yesterday. at the age of 45 and was unable to recover from it and the surgery which followed the episode. Kirby Puckett, 45 years old, died tonight March 7th due to these complications.

He will be missed and in his honor the proceeds of this auction will be donated to help further the cause which he succumbed to.

  • Great to see board members remembering Kirby this way. I hope his fellow major leaguers will step up to the plate and take over Kirby's pool tournament which raised money for charity also...
  • I'm glad to see a positive auction for Kirby.......one of the sad things about a player passing away is when every greedy jerk off out there lists everything they have on ebay to try and capitalize on that players death.....

I remember it very badly back when Daryl Kile passed away and same with Derrick Thomas......Kory Stringer was horrible since people were selling commons for $10, the worst was Pat Tillman hands down. I don't even want to look on ebay since it will leave a sour taste in my mouth.

I have a dozen 1984 fleer update Kirby's in PSA 9, and 2 in PSA 10, but just couldnt bring myself to putting them up for auction. Sure, the thousand or so dollars would be nice, as well as much needed, but I would rather be able to look myself in the mirror than cash in on his unfortunate passing.

After seeing this thread I even considered throwing some on for charity too, but the last thing I want is controversy over that or someone accusing me of anything other than good will. I hope the charity auction does well and that the money does find itself going to a good cause. It really is nice to know there are some good people out there in this hobby, most of which can be found right here on these boards.

I have a small stack of in-person signed Puckett rookies. Most are Fleer IIRC. I would be happy to toss one of them into this auction. Suppose I could just pm bsfastball...

  • Thanks envoy! I made a note of it in the auction.
  • bump, ends tonight
  • It's just disgusting of all the auctions that are up right now......I have around 100 Puckett 85 rookies and I know I could make a killing right now but I guess I have too much self respect to try and profit on someone elses misfortune.

Me too. Last night a Donruss rc went for $110. The seller called it NM-MT but you could see white at several spots on the borders.
