I bid half of this winning bid

auction I really like AU58s in general, and these coins are no exception, but is 1885-S such a good date as to drive the price so high? Is this stupid-money? Am I missing something?

Perhaps the winning bidder will crack them and sell as MS 63's, just a guess-------BigE

Hmmm..... I notice he's telling us that because a coin is in a PCGS holder that it's never been cleaned.

    I've got news for him.

Still, I wouldn't have paid that much for those coins. I suppose somebody else is seeing crackout profits.

I suspect the buyer is in for an expensive surprise. They might get a break on the New Orleans, but San Fran coins are sharp from the get go. They probably are AU and nothing more. Just wait till they get a grade of AU 50 or 55 when expecting a 63. image

The process engages all the hidden forces of economic law on the side of destruction, and it does it in a manner which not one man in a million is able to diagnose."

The guy (winner) doesn't win much, I think he was just jones'n for a win. This is stupid money, even if they do upgrade (for $90 in fees).
