Have you seen the prices on Puckett's right now!

1985 donruss "NM-MT" as the seller says even though the chipping on the top is at $60.oo raw!

A 85 Donruss GAI 9 that was in my store for the past 5 months got snapped up quick for $14. This whole thing will last about a week or so and then right back to normal. Only his auto's will go up and hold, there isn't suddenly a lower supply of his cards though.

I agree. It makes me sick that people list this stuff to profit. Obviously the people who had the stuff on just simply got lucy.

This seller should be ashamed of himself

I would never try to capitalize off this, But I just sold two Psa 10 Pucketts last week and the week before, They went for around $115. I wondered what they would be going for this week if I had them up?
I have looked on Ebay tonight and seen some of the jerks listing one day auctions of his stuff, The things people wont do to make a quick buck !

Nothing like dancing on Kirby's grave by price gouging.

  • Talk about ghoulish and in bad taste.

  • << <i>Nothing like dancing on Kirby's grave by price gouging. >>

How is it price gouging if the items are being sold in an auction?

It's not price gouging, but the sellers listing things right now are in poor taste IMO. They are simply capitalizing on the misfortune of another.

I don't see how it's the sellers fault if people are willing to be ... IDIOTS... and pay 100x market value. I literally can't comprehend what these buyers have to be thinking!!

You know its going to happen whenever any player of note passes. However, when a
well liked HOFer passes, one can only imagine what the massive influx of new listings on ebay
    will be. Case in point.

5:22 PST - It is announced the Kirby Puckett has passed, 2877 items on ebay under "Kirby Puckett"
8:40 PST - A mere three hours and eighteen minutes later, 4117 items on ebay under "Kirby Puckett"

I understand the concept of striking while the iron is hot, but this will never stop bothering
    me.

It's price gouging because the people buying the cards are buying to "get in" before the prices skyrocket, most of them aren't serious collectors and they don't know what they're doing. Zef posted an auction of 6 $1 cards that was at $37 or so. That's gaining from Kirby's death.

It's ok to sell Mcgwire rookies for $200 each when he's chasing Maris, since they possibly have a chance to go up, but $1 Kirby cards are going to be $1 Kirby cards a year from now.

I bought a Kirby puckett book, I Love This Game! by Kirby Puckett & Mike Ryan so I can learn more about him. I haven't watched much baseball for the last 20 years or so.

I don't feel sorry for people who aren't bright enough to check completed auctions to see what an item is actually worth. Like you said, the people are trying to 'get in' before the prices skyrocket. So the buyers are really trying to get in on these poor, unsuspecting sellers and make some BIG TIME profit off the sellers, who do not know what they are doing. Ironic, isn't it, that it's really the idiot buyer that think they are pulling a fast one that is actually overpaying insanely for the cards? I see this as very comical.

  • I just put up four Puckett Leaf rookies, but I'm donating 90% of the proceeds to the American Heart Association. Figure its one way to make some good out of the high prices his cards are commanding at the moment. Sorry if this strikes anyone as spammy, but bids are welcome of course.

I wonder how many of these bids are legit, though. There's bound to be at least a few folks out there winning these auctions with no intention of paying just to prevent sellers from profiting from Kirby's death.

I do too, remember back when Mantle died and when Earnhardt died all of a sudden there were a million new "fans" who had to have something, anything, to show they were fans and they shared in the loss. Or they wanted to get rich.

OT but what do you think about the Packers signing Ahman for another year? I'm a Gado fan but I'm happy to see Batman back too.

Nice Kirby video - Kirby Puckett
    image
  • This usually happens - people bid huge amounts right after someone dies young. I remember $0.50 Pat Tillman cards selling for $50 after he died. It's one thing to have an auction end when the unthinkable happens, but when people list stuff with BIN's right after someone dies,... All I can say is what goes around, comes around...
  • zef204zef204 Posts: 4,742 ✭✭

No prob. I'll bid again. I posted it on the open forum so they may bid as well. Despite the hostilities that often arise between them and us, there are some good guys over there. PA, SDsportsfan, bjork and I have fit right in.

Well, great minds do think alike.
Regarding the Ahman situation, I'm very glad he's back. I don't see what everyone else sees in Gado. I see a guy who had, what, a couple hundred yard games in a broken season? and now he's a fantasy top 10 back and franchise back! I don't really understand it. I think if he would have shown up for the saints or someone, he would already be forgotten by now. Of course, I hope I"m wrong and he's a flat out stud. But to be honest, if Favre is gone, I'm not sure how interested I will really be.
