There are some great people out there - got a message from ebay buyer (VAM related)

I sold this vam on ebay and I was shocked by the final price just over $200. The buyer send me following message:

Hi Tom; Received the coin today, and it is a VAM 1A LDS with the full clashed t. I collect clashed Morgans and this one will fit into my collection just fine and has a new home now as I never resell the coins I buy. The man who bid against me is Dr Mark Kimpton who has written the book on clashed die coins. So when you get grandkids, you can tell them that you sold a Morgan that the Dr bid on. Thanks for the lovely coin. Smitty

It's a good feeling to know that there are some great collectors out there. Does anyone know this collector?

Too bad I erased the pic of the coin in question, sorry

  • Mark Kimpton recently joined this forum. He posts under "morganvamclashie" and as described above, authored a great VAM reference book on clashed dies!

  • Gotta love those VAMs!! image

Maybe you should take a look at some of your other coins for clashed dies and othe...oops...nevermind!!

It's hard enough to cherry-pick eBay and other sites for those hard to get VAMs as it is!! image

And I agree..there are a lot of good people out there/here!!

If I only had a dollar for every VAM I have...err...nevermind...I do!! image

It has been increasingly obvious the past few years that there are more attentive cherrypickers out there. I used to clean up on Teletrade (and elsewhere). Now, it is uncommon to not get into a minor bidding war with one or two others on VAM list varieties. Clashed dies used to be that way too. All that seems left are the obscure recent finds in the updates (R-5 and up). (Got an 1878 VAM-33A tonight though without resistance.) It's all fun competition anyway. If we raise prices in our bidding challenges, it benefits our portfolios anyway.
