Christ. He was only 3 years older than me. Despite how I felt about him in recent years, no one deserves this. RIP to one of best who ever played the game.
Living in Iowa, I see the majority of my games in Minnesota. Kirby Puckett was the first baseball player that I can remember truly being a fan of. Just thinking of Bob Casey announcing Puck coming to the plate gives me goosebumps. It is really a sad day.
Puckett was my childhood hero, my started playing when I was 5 T-ball age. And announced this retirement my junoir year of H.S. And I thought that was a hard day.
I will remember Kirby for all that he did on the field, his comitic personallilty, his love for the game, and his smile.
Minnesota has lost one of the best, if not the best, baseball players!!
My younger brother sent me a text message on my cell phone with the news tonight. He knew I was a big fan of Kirby back when I was in college. Kirby's personal life kind of changed my opinion of him in recent years, but man, the news hit me as if I had lost an old friend. This is really sad.
It was really sad to hear about the passing of Kirby Puckett this evening so I figured I would post a bulletin about this. I would never consider myself a Kirby Puckett fan or anything but I had a lot of respect for him as a player and for what he gave to baseball. It is sad to hear of something like this at such a young age, please keep his family in your prayers.
Growing up in San Diego Tony Gwynn was a hero for a lot of people but fans in Minnesota love Kirby as much as we love Tony Gwynn and they were both very similar players who played in the same time period and both only played for one team in their career.
RIP Kirby Puckett.....one of the best and most respected baseball players in the past 25 years........
The Twins spring training facility is a mile from my home in Ft. Myers. Being involved with local government and the law enforcement community in the area, I have friends who are connected to the Twins organization. I'm sure to hear from them today.
My work has taken me from home for 6 months, but I'll be moving back next week. The first thing I planned to do was get to the Twins practice or a game.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
Rest In Peace Kirby!!! You were and still are one of the greatest!!! You will be missed by millions!! God Bless you!!!! You will always live on in our hearts forever!!!!
