PSA/DNA grading; set registry

Something isn't clear to me on the PSA/DNA grading, and it's relationship to the PSA Set Registry, but hopefully someone here can clear it up. Case in point: I have a 1962 Ford Detroit Tigers post card of Rocky Colavito, which is autographed. The card has been sent in for the $20. service for PSA/DNA grading/authentication and the "with grade" box checked. My confusion is on how the grade is assigned--is it for the overall condition of the card itself, on which the autograph appears, or is the grade assigned for the autograph itself (i.e. based on whatever factors are taken into account for grading an autograph, such as how strong, clear, and legible it is, etc.), or is it some kind of combination grade of the card itself AND the autograph? Since this type of post card issue can either be autographed, or not autographed, i'm also wondering what kind of entry it would have in the PSA Player Set Registry--would there just be a place for '1962 Ford Tigers' and the autograph would be a non-factor?

No idea about the registry.
