How to handle vintage fresh from pack cards?

I've got a few 1950 era packs heading my way right now. I was wondering what the best way to open the packs and handle the cards to make sure they are not damaged for grading purposes. Should I buy medical gloves to prevent oil from my skin? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Gloves are not necessary. Your biggest risk is that the cards are already damaged from 50+ years of sitting around. Corner dents, creases, and extreme off-centeredness are quite common in 1950s era packs. With the 1951 Topps packs, in particular, back wrinkles are very prevalent.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I would think that clean dry hands would surfice...........Do have card savers readily available to place cards in at once........

...Remember the wrappers are valuable also ...so handle them with care and have a large rigid toploader ready for them....

By the way...I am one to agree that you should leave them closed.........

....but that being said......let us know of the results.....with scans......

    I've opened RBs

    They open quite easily.

I have seen tons of reseals. You will know right away - if the cards look worn? You've been had.

    Good luck
    Hope you do good!
