Anybody here collect signed baseballs?

A friend at work found out this morning I collect sports stuff when I got a package at work ( post office). He asked if I know anything about old baseballs, he might want to sell one. He took it himself around the clubhouse and got it signed, 1969 cubs.

I haven't seen it yet, so I don't know condition. He said everybody signed it, I spit out the names I knew (durocher, banks, jenkins, santo) and he said yes everybody.

Any idea what something like that would be worth, so I can tell him? I'm not a buyer at all, not trying to sell it right now either, just completely clueless about a value. I checked ebay and found balls with all 19 players on them, signed at a reunion. This was signed in the clubhouse. His dad was a friend of the 3rd base coach.

Any help appreicated, thanks in advance!

Probably somewhere between $50 and $200, depending on condition, number of signatures, key signatures, etc.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I'll give him $50 for that ball sight unseen.

The '69 Cubs has a pretty big following, kind of like the '86 Mets. I can't believe I just mentioned Mets in the same sentance as the '69 Cubs. Dammit, I did it again.

I digress, if the ball is in good condition, and the big names are there; Banks, Williams, Santo, Jenkins and Holtzman, I would think the ball could go signifcantly higher than $200.

edited to add: Then again, maybe not.

  • With key signatures and in good condition your probably looking at $350-$600.
  • The ball that was signed could make a difference as well. The auction link from the previous post is from a reunion signing. If it was signed on a Warren Giles ball rather than say a Giamatti Ball that could add value as well. image
