Last impulse buys before CICF

Both from Greg's last night's auctions. My first ever sampleslab, is listed as type 18 in Cameron's site: these slabs were given out at a PCGS sponsored lunch at the May 2003 Long Beach show. PCGS Message board members were invited to attend and this slab was a special gift for all that attended. Only 40 were made and it has become one of the scarcest sample slabs made by PCGS.

BTW, I saw a few members in the bid history. image

And a cool Indian coin that came with it:

Here's my take away from last night. I have (self-made) mint state examples of about half of the coinage struck between 1958-1966. This is the first one I've bought that was certified by somebody else. This was the first series made after independence from the U.S., the so called "republic series" with English legends. After that, Marcos took over with his Tagalog reform coinage.

Syracusian, that's an interesting looking Indian coin. Do you know anything more about it that you can share?

If you wanted to make a great impulse buy, you should have bid on the "killer" 1958 Vatican 500Limage Greg got some moon money on some of his last night.3Mark

Moon money indeed Mark. A 1939 5L Sede Vacante with similar monster colours didn't do bad either, like most of his coins. I actually won two more last night, these are from the shroom, I didn't really expect to win them, but they went so low that they didn't pass my nets. image

It was a Thai note and this, you gotta admit that his photography has vastly improved!

Filam, other than the fact that I was seduced by the design and the condition and colour of this coin, I don't have much to say, besides what's already on the holder. Unless the seller gives me an extra tip in which case I'll post it.

edited to add that the obverse features goddess Shiva with the 4 hands, two of them for good and two of them for evil, an ever present figure in eastern philosophies and tradition, that much I know myself. image
