Wow, what a difference two months make when your are a new collector, the first 'show' I went to was this one. This time armed with my price guides and eschenbach loupe I attempted not to be the dealers CHUM i.e. not their buddy but bait for the SHARKS. It seems I held my own this trip. For my registry set I was able to strike a fair deal for a 1920-D pcgs ms64rb toned coin from charmy the penny lady For my toned early commems set I purchased a Missouri, California, Texas, Cleveland and Arkansas all very very nice. There was a very sweet blue toned BU Isabella for $1250 that will have to wait. For my type set I asked a dealer how much for the toned trade dollar? He replied in a very confident manner after perusing the gray sheet even though he had the obligatory markings on the holder $1100. Hmmm, did I miss something like a mintmark on this coin? so asked very nicely where did you get that price from I show $225(non toned). It appears he made a boo-boo by $875 so I got a toned trade dollar for my 7070. I also got a toned great Britain trade dollar for small money what a great classic looking coin! All in all a great show and great coins... SoCalBigMark

I was there today and only bought a VG 1901-S Morgan out of a binder. I don't like going to coin shows and not buying anything. Lately I've been hestitant to spend much at shows because the same coins can be found on eBay for a lot less. I mean a LOT less. The prices are absurd for the most part, and most dealers overgrade their stuff. MrLee and I looked at a Flying Eagle cent marked as BU, with obvious wear on it. The dealer showed it to us and bragged about what a great coin it was. It wasn't. I asked him what he felt a 3rd party grading service would give it and he said he didn't know, then started complaining about 3rd party grading services.
Still, it was a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
