I've been considering this coin for a while, but...

...just haven't yet pulled "the trigger". What do you think about this beauty!

I just love coins with ships.
The real question is do you like it as well as the seller does?

Actually, it looks like it might be tab toning from the original holder, but I am not familiar with the holders these originally came in.
I dunno. I wouldn't do it. You never know how much of a coin's stated grade came from exceptional eye appeal vs. technical merits like luster, marks, & strike -- and this is one where the jump from a 65 to a 66 is considerable (3x, something like that) on top of which you've got the 2-3x premium for the color? Seems steep.
I'm sure it is beautiful. It just seems like a lot of money for what it is.
In my opinion, there are much better coins you could buy for three thousand dollars.

This can't be true, I say this because all the folks that consign to him flame me when I say what you've mentioned in the above quote. And say the coins look EXACTLY like the images. So I have now learned on here this must be true. Besides, I've also learned he's a "Good Guy" which means everything, and don't forget the 100% positive feedback. Should I put a wink, or no? haha

Since I have not seen the coin in person, I cannot confirm that the image is juiced. It certainly looks like it, but I might be wrong. What I feel certain about is the importance of avoiding 10% restocking fees on ebay transactions or any other purchases. If this were a real auction with realistic photos (ie. Russ), you could make the argument that return priviliges are not appropriate. In this case, ebay is being used as a fixed price sales outlet, the prices are very high compared with published values, and 100% return privilige is appropriate. No seller with this policy will ever get a sale from me (at any price and with any pictures)--and I do not care how many old ladies the "good guy" helps cross the street!

OK, just thinking out loud is all. stman outta here.
Edited to add a quote from your own signature line:
"If you're considering whether or not to buy that special coin, life's too short- "
Finally as to the restocking fee.....my most recent purchase from Dick was returned due to a spot of grease or something on the coin...(PCI slab go figure) and Dick graciously accepted the coin back and no restocking fee was charged to me so.......
Buy it if you like it.....it's your money Dizz

<< <i> and/or members here shill their own coins in his auction. The latter happened a few years back but I have a long memory. I just happen to draw the line there and while this may not bother other buyers it does me. >>
Ebay cannot detect this either. Still, I think it is unethical. If any major eBay consignors of coins think this is OK, I would like to hear why they think it is.
