Can't get marine proof dollar out of capsule-- help

One part of the two part capsule holding a marine proof commemorative dollar remains attached (stuck) to the coin for two of the five coins I received from the mint. Any suggestions on a SAFE way to remove the coins from the capsule half? Thanks.

  • Heat it with a hair dryer and then twist slightly. It should come out.

I would carefully put it in the freezer. The coin will shrink more than the plastic.

Heating it will make the plastic expand much quicker than the silver and make it pliable. Freezing will make the plastic brittle and susceptible to breakage, thus potentially marring the coin!

Funny you post that today.....I just pulled out the 1st flight commems.... 1/2 and proof $1 to put in my dansco (I've been jones'ing for something to put in there for the last month or more since long beach was so pathetic, in my view).

Anyway, I tried and tried with the 1/2 for 20 minutes or longer....while watching the Sonics basketball game. I just started fumbling with it and found that (even with gloved hands and it being a little slippery because of that) I could grasp the plastic at one "edge" with both hands and do a little "twist" to it.....coin popped right out.

I got the Proof $1 out and in less than 20 seconds, same twist, I had it out. I had tried both of them upside down and beating on the back of the plastic.....wouldn't budge.
The twist did it super quick.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Try tapping it down over a mouse pad or velvet pad.
