Kids want to do and take part in what the people they look up to do. So if his dad wants to knit blankets or something of that nature then he will as well.

When they look at the cards with you and go to shows with you, thats something they will always remember and look back on. Thats real special to a child. My girls love looking at my cards with me when I pull them out of the closet.

  • thats me...my 5 year old girl, who is the one playing football with 8 and 9 year old boys, asks me everyday when i get home from work, if we are going to open some cards up..it is an awesome feeling especially knowing i can teach her some history in baseball and the players, but her main thing is, is that she wants all the oriole cards!!!......BUT YOU KNOW WHAT......more power to her!!!

My father-in-law: resident of Green Bay, WI since 1967 (the Wiff grew up there). He has NO interest in the Packers; has never attended a game and has never watched a game on TV.

During his first visit to Boston in 1997 or 1998, we drove by the soon-to-be-torn-down Boston Garden. We chatted a little bit about some of the greats who played there. I kid you not--this 60 year old man had NEVER heard of Larry Bird or Bobby Orr. The names meant nothing to him.

    Otherwise, he's a sweetheart of a guy.

    But Yikes!

When I was a kid, we bought wax packs for the gum. The cards was just a nice extra.

    That doesn't exist any more.

Maybe the kid knows 1992 UD is considered "junk wax." image

It's like giving someone a half-eaten, rotten sandwich.

If I tried to give someone a 1993 Refractor PSA 8, I'd probably get punched in the mouth!!!

Not liking cards is fine, but refusing to accept a gift simply because it's not your style is rude-- even for an eight year old.

Does anyone out there think pricing might have something to do with kids not intrested in collecting.I am sure that there are a few of us on this board that can relate back to the late 50,early 60s when paks were just a nickel.A nickel if you were lucky would
get you possibly a home town favorite you would idolize or Super Star,Mantle,Mays etc.Today a kid has to spend at least a couple bucks on a pak and get zilch.Honestly I think many of todays kids have been simply priced out of the hobby as well as possibly some of us adults.Kids also have many more alternatives we never had years back that are given to them by thier parents etc, computer games etc etc.

Buy the kid a box of Pokemon cards...he will probably go nuts and you will become his favorite neighbor.
